Belt Sounds like a snapped belt to me. If the hum was the motor receiving power, but the shaft not turning it would overheat rather quickly, but if it hums smoothly throughout the cycle and never drains...my guess is the belt is gone.

Update Well, my washer has been running normally, with no issues. Yesterday I did three loads with the extra rinse on each. The last one was quite full, but the loads weren't back-to-back. I was off from work and was pretty much lazing around the house so the loads were spread apart. l
