    Toilet cleaner endorsement (US)

Agreed. "The Works" is strong stuff but because of that, I reserve it for deep cleaning and use either Comet or Ajax cleanser for keeping the bowl clean between scrubings.

    Daily Detergent Thread May 2011

New Version Of Xtra I have recently found a new favorite: Xtra with Oxy Clean Stain Fighters. It's in a blue bottle, and while it costs more than the regular Xtra formula, it does a better cleaning job thanks to the addition of enzymes. A great compromise between performance and value. It's...

    New Products News: Dishwashing

Dishwashing Liquid Scents I tried Gain original scent liquid because I had a coupon, but while it works well, the smell is too sweet and overpowering for me. I went back to Ajax lemon and lime (love both scents; not cloying or too strong), and saved money as well. I won't go back again.

Vintage Gain Detergent - Excellent Results!

Gain From the box, I think that version of Gain was sold in the late 60's/early 70's. At that time, Gain became the regular detergent in my beloved but trouble-prone Kenmore 800, replacing former stalwarts Bold and Ajax. Never used Cold Power or the Color Bleach version of Rinso, however. I...

    First Washer/Dryer Hook-ups

My parents bougth their first home a year after I was born. The utility room (with a washer only hookup) was just off the kitchen. We dried our clothes on the line in the back yard. More than a decade later, I was in charge of the weekly wash and begged my parents for a clothes dryer. My...

    POD 3/1/11 DASH Detergent ad

For The Best Combination Of Cancer And Taste.... Starting in the fall of 1962, Kent Cigarettes became alternate sponsor of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" with P&G. And of course, the cast did the spots. Here's one with Dick, Rose Marie and Morey Amsterdam singing the sponsor's jingle.

And Here's More Of Moore (And Dick) Of course, Dash wasn't the only P&G product Dick and Mary pitched every week. Here's a little push for Joy:

    Action Chlorine Bleach

Back in the late 1960's, I had the job of doing the family wash, but Mom picked out the laundry products. Action was the bleach she wanted to use (along with Ajax, Bold and Gain detergents and Final Touch softener). Action did a decent bleaching job, but there were always one or two broken...

    First car...

My First Car When I was in college, my mother gave me her 1966 Chrysler Newport 2 door hardtop. She bought it in 1976 from an elderly woman for just $300. It was avocado green with a black cloth/vinyl interior. The engine overheated, power steering and transmission leaked, the front power...

Vintage 1950s Bubble Up Wall Clock

I Remember Bubble Up When I was a boy, my grandparents always kept bottles of Bubble Up around. My grandfather also bought jugs of wine, and used to add Bubble Up to the wine. Guess he liked the taste. I liked it too--the Bubble Up, that is!

What do you use to clean your bathroom & kitchen with?

My Favorite Products For the kitchen, I usually use dishwashing detergent (Ajax) for everyday cleaning; tougher jobs get glass cleaner--Walmart's Great Value works very well. Where necessary, either Ajax or Comet cleanser are always on hand. In the bathroom, cleanser for the toilet and glass...

    Centura by Corning

Centura Ads Back in 1964-65, Corning ran a great ad campaign showing a bull in a china shop, bumping into one display after another--of course, the displays were filled with Centura tableware, as the announcer points out the three-year guarantee against breakage. It won a Cleo Award (the...

    Admiral or Speed Queen

The Admiral Can Be A Good Buy I can see where the Admiral can be a good buy. For people who need a decent washer at a low price--and who can accept fewer frills--it (along with WP brands Estate and Roper) can serve users well. By the way, the Home Depot near my Las Vegas home is selling the...

    Modern vs vintage formula detergents

My Favorite Suds I did the laundry as a boy (to avoid doing dishes every night), but Mom always bought the detergents. Her favorites were powders, of course--Ajax, Bold and Gain. I loved the smell of the old Gain, and boy did it suds up in the Kenmore 800 series! She also bought Action bleach...

Your Favourite Cooking Shows Past and Present

Julia And Kerr I grew up watching Julia Child and "The Galloping Gourmet"; those shows were great for a budding cook. Of the modern shows, I like to watch Lydia and "Good Eats;" among the competition shows, "Top Chef" and "Next Food Network Star" are my favorites. "Hell's Kitchen" is great...

    Remember this Yacht ???

That '62 Chrysler Dash Brings back nice memories. Our '62 Newport Sedan had a blue dash and the air conditioner vents on top of the dash, but otherwise was the same. Loved that instrument pod; it was so "Jetsons" and very easy to read at night. From what I read, the federal government was...

    Cold water washing- WHY?!?!?

Cold Facts Yes, I admit doing laundry in cold water--but only my colored shirts, jeans and slacks. They are usually in need of freshening, and the combination of cold water, proper loading and a good detergent does the trick, along with a low heat setting on my dryer. My whites--from sheets...

    Maytag Revolution Hardcover

I just received my copy from Amazon.com ($5.48 including shipping). So far, a good read and a very interesting history of the pre-Whirlpool Maytag. It gets two thumbs up from this reader!
