    Mini Maid dishwasher on CL

I don't remember ever seeing one of these http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/app/2700158957.html

    Electrolux Gleaner

It's really very simple While everyone else put a brush strip on their straight suction rug nozzles, Electrolux employed the Gleaner to serve the same purpose.  It's just a "brush" with no bristles.  The advantage of the Gleaner is that lint, threads and such don't get trapped the way they do...

    Whole-grain bread...crazy healthy, fiber-packed, and NO cardboard!

no milk or eggs That's the great thing about bread; you can go completely vegan and still have home-baked comfort food!

    Whole-grain bread...crazy healthy, fiber-packed, and NO cardboard!

Dry milk I go heavy on the dry milk to add extra nutrition.  I don't think it changes the flavor dramatically.  You could use less or no dry milk at all and just substitute milk for the 1 1/2 cups of warm water.  Or, don't use any milk if someone is lactose intolerant.

    Whole-grain bread...crazy healthy, fiber-packed, and NO cardboard!

This bread is very light, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and is fabulous when toasted.  I cook mostly by the "scoop of this, pinch of that" method so these measurements are very close but not brutally precise.   3/4 cup Bob's Red Mill 7-grain hot cereal 1/2 cup oats 3 cups water Combine and...

Most honey sold in U.S. stores fails to meet standards

In addition to the national brands, Cub stores here carry honey produced locally.  That goes for maple syrup as well.  They also have locally grown fruits and vegetables in-season, and some of their stores have sizeable organic/natural food selections at better prices than Whole Foods.

    Washing Bathmats

I always had out-of-balance issues when washing rugs (or anything else heavy for that matter) in TL washers but have never had any trouble in either my Maytag or Whirlpool FL machines.   The kitchen and entry area rugs get washed in a load by themselves and then are line-dried.  My bathroom rugs...

What type of humidifier do you use?

I had an Aprilaire unit installed with the new furnace in the last house and was very happy with it.  In this house I was already over-budget with the cost of the new furnace and ac so I've been using a Lasko portable unit which seems to work well-enough.  The Best-Air brand replacement filter...

    Bread baking question --Freeze dough?

After the first  proofing when you are dividing the dough to make two loaves, wrap one tightly in cling wrap and then in foil, or put the wrapped loaf in a plastic bag and remove as much air as possible before putting it in the freezer.   I haven't worked with frozen bread dough in many years...

    Corningware tea KETTLE

Calling the pot a kettle Are you talking about one with a bale handle like this?  I have seen a few in thrift stores over the years.

    Portable Air Purifiers

I usually pick up several packages of the charcoal filters when I see them on sale at Menard's and once found them on clearance at Target and bought all they had.   It's been a couple years since I've needed to buy any but I don't think a double-pack of the filters was any more expensive than a...

    Electrolux Gleaner

Leave it to you Rick, to be composing a thorough and exhaustive Encyclopaedia Britannica response to the question while I was posting my Reader's Digest Condensed version.

    Portable Air Purifiers

Gary, I hope the Honeywell comes closer to meeting your expectations.  I can definitely notice the air in the house smells fresher with mine.  The high cfm, 360 degree intake and exhaust directed upward create excellent air circulation in the room, much like a good ceiling fan.  It's not exactly...

    Electrolux Gleaner

With the model 1205 and forward the gleaner was changed to a stationary, always-on version.  Instead of serrations, the surface of the bar has spiral-cut grooves like a fine wood rasp which provide a little friction so that lint, fuzz, etc. can be loosened from the rug and sucked up.    The...

    Electrolux Gleaner

The earlier version of the gleaner had two positions depending upon what kind of rug was being cleaned.  In the "on" position the serrated side of the bar was exposed.  This acted like a comb to catch lint, threads, etc., and was intended to be used on a cut-pile rug.  If the rug was a...

Kitchen Aid DW on PGH Craigslist

Just like the KDI 21 portable that serves as back-up for big baking extravaganzas and holiday dinners in my basement laundry room!

    Electrolux Gleaner

The gleaner is the rough-surfaced bar on the back edge of the rug side of the tool that helps to loosen hair, lint, etc. from the carpet.

    Vintage Appliance Advertisments Part Two

Holy picture tube, Batman! We had that exact GE television when I was a kid!  Whenever I remember watching Rocky and Bullwinkle, Axel in his treehouse, or Lunch With Casey I always see that turqoise "frame" around the picture!

    ???? Farberware Turbo Convection oven???

Fabu-farberware! I bought mine in 1980 and it has been indispensable ever since.   Pies, cakes, cookies, bread, even a 12lb turkey always come out of that oven done to perfection.  The extra oven space is a huge help for big holiday dinners or the annual Christmas cookie-baking party.  It heats...

    Corn on the Cob.......done easy

It works! I have used that method for years.  The kernels really plump up and I swear the corn is much more flavorful.
