    Vintage Fridge Thread

My Frigidaire I've had it for about 2 1/2 years.   It needs some cosmetic work and is missing the shelf over the crisper drawer, but it runs like a top and it's so quiet.  Hopefully soon it will be taking its place alongside my newly acquired vintage Gibson range in the kitchen.

    New Range Thread!

Hans, those ranges are wonderful!  The Kenmore and the '55 Norge look like they were designed by a car manufacturer of the era.   The Caloric has that "look of the future" that was everywhere in the 60's.....even the facades of buildings.   Seeing the picture of your GE made my heart leap in my...

oven bottoms I noticed the steel oven bottoms the first time I saw the Gibson my friend in Florida has.  It makes perfect sense to avoid the crazing issue, plus it makes cleaning up burned-on spills much easier without the risk of scratching or dulling a porcelain finish.

    Hot Water Looks Yellow

Is it just the hot water or cold water too?  Pour a glass of cold water and let it set for a day to see if any sediment settles out of it.  Are you on city water or well water?  Your water heater might have a buildup of sediment and need to be flushed out.

    Philco Refrigerator Restoration

If the point is to have a retro look without sacrificing any convenience of a modern fridge then I think for probably the same amount of money a new Big Chill or other similar retro style fridge would be a better investment than trying to gut and convert an older unit.  Defrosting takes just a...

    New Range Thread!

The Aristocrat They weigh as much as my car and take up nearly as much space but, oh, could I cook with one of those babies!  Two ovens, two broilers, a warming oven, 6 burners.....heck, a person could run a restaurant with one.  The Aristocrat's only rival would be the Magic Chef 6300, another...

the missing pot The original deep well pot is long gone.  The contents of the house were liquidated in an estate sale a year ago!   I'm sure one will turn up somewhere.

The same range Yes Bob, it's uncanny, isn't it?  And even moreso because I have a friend in Florida with an identical stove!  I thoroughly enjoyed cooking with it while visiting there.  The ovens are wonderful.  The bottom elements are concealed and the heat is so even that you can bake on...

New addition to the family: Westinghouse Commodore

Kevin... There's a knack to cooking with coal or wood but once you get the hang of it, it makes perfect sense and is quite nice.  Temperature control is largely a matter of proximity to the firebox and taking advantage of direct or indirect heat.  My grandmother switched to an electric stove...

    5 hour energy drinks

Hours of inactivity sitting at a desk is a surefire recipe for fatigue and mental "fuzziness."  I try to get up and stretch periodically, and even take a brisk 10 minute walk to jump start my metabolism and get some blood flowing to the brain again.

Now I need to find a vehicle and some able-bodied assistance to get these things home.  Anyone in the Twin Cities want to lend a hand?

Interior shot.....The door gasket is a bit "stiff" but intact, and the wash arm and sump area just have a little hard water buildup.     Sorry about the smaller photo.  It's from the CL ad.  All my interior pics somehow got deleted from my phone when I went to upload them

Next up:  a KD 12!  I have wanted one of these early dishwashers since I saw the first one when I was all of 4 years old.  I doubt it was used very much by the look of the interior.  It's dirty from being in the garage but there are only the tiniest traces of rust in a couple places.....and NOT...

I'm beside myself with excitement and had to share as soon as I got home.  These appliances were taken out of a mid-century modern house being renovated in Stillwater.  The seller was as happy to see them go to a good home as I was to write him a check and call them mine!   First, the Gibson...
