    Maytag dependable care or performa?

Pierre, let me be the one to apologize. I am sorry. You can always get a used DC or Kenmore washer and I think that would suite your needs best.

    Maytag dependable care or performa?

Maytag did it to compete with Whirlpool sales. Make a low cost large capacity machine with lots of features and cycle options. This was the worst mistake Maytag ever made. These machine did not last. They had a lot of break downs, some rather scary. Word got around fast, Maytag's reputation was...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I understand your anger. It is very reasonable. This is an example of having blind faith in authority. Thinking that an appliance salesperson has somehow access superior knowledge, a better education and wide reaching experience when often for them it is just a boring job to make money for...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

Absolutely, your 1985 A482 is indeed a dependable care and truly the best, greatest washer ever built. Anything else is throwing your money away. Nothing will outlast it or take better care of your clothes. Or rinse just as nicely. It is very painful for me that the dependable cares were...

Maytag DE313 dryer - auto-dry dial not winding down sometimes

Maytag made the mistake of not including the high limit thermostat in the timer advance circuit. So if the dryer ever starts cycling on its high limit due to a clogged vent the timer will never advance.

    Maytag dependable care or performa?

Awesome! I wish Maytag could have done this with all their washers. Dependable Cares underneath, various names like Magic chef, Atlantis, Performa, Amana, ect on the front.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

I'll say this since it is the forum to say it. One thing I often dream about and persistently fantasize about is walking into a 2025 appliance store with 90% of the top load washers being Dependable Cares with various agitators and control panel designs under various names like Kenmore, Maytag...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

If everyone were like me, the Maytag Dependable Care would be in 90% of all Laundry rooms, OPLs and commercial top applications. There would be agitator variants like the Power Fin, load sensor, ramp and other design variants. Possibly both Pitman and Orbital transmissions based on the model...

    Burgers and Fries

Have you looked into an exhaust hood vented to the exterior of your home? Outdoor venting can significantly reduce the odor of frying, saute, grilling, curry, ect in the home itself. However if you do smelly cooking only on occasion it may not be worth the added cost.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

To answer the question in this thread: around 1995 when they released the performas. That was officially the beginning of the end. Performa, Norge, and Amana designs should never have been produced by Maytag.

What year seems to be this hotpoint washer and dryer

Do you have a close up of the control panel? I'm guessing 80s, possibly 90s.

    Burgers and Fries

I do not pre-treat the fries. I drop them in as is. The more oil there is the more residual heat there is, so the large oil volume helps prevent a sharp temperature dip. Key is getting to 375*F and staying close to that temperature for extra crispy fries. You mention an air fryer which are very...

    Whirlpool Washer Rant!

Thats what a direct drive would cost today in 2025 with an all porcelain coated cabinet, commercial drive components, stainless steal wash basket, metal timer, beefed up motor, and Eaton style water valves. If anything the price is really low for all the vintage engineering involved. Even a...

    Burgers and Fries

Well, we're going to have to agree to disagree. Studies can be rigged to say anything, destination science and agnotology are a very real thing. No matter what unprocessed red meat is essential for human health and brain development. The hotplate is in the cabinet. It is taking a vacation and...

    Burgers and Fries

Just be careful, olive oil has a low smoke point down to 350*F. Once the oil is overheated it outweighs its health benefits. Not knocking on you here, to each his own.

    Burgers and Fries

I don't see red meat as an issue, rather processed red meat. Humans evolved around eating meat and that is what the body really needs and is really designed for. Along with certain fats. Red meat is demonized out of ignorance and a misconception that all fats are bad. Things like high...

    This hurts...

Absolutely smashing washer! I love the long soak option, the programmed cycle, the lights, the push-button knobs, 16 minutes of wash time, the knob. I wish they would make a modern Dependable Care or Direct Drive version of this washer. Does this washer still have its wiring/cycle diagram?

How To Replace The Two Speed Clutch On A G.E. Filter Flo

My honest opinion is they should have just ditched the two speed clutch altogether and built the delicate cycle into the timer. IMO GE offered one of the only washers ever built that could get away with a single speed motor. There ramp agitator was gentle enough the it could accommodate delicate...

    Burgers and Fries

Here is today's meal: Stouffers frozen pepper, dumplings, mozzarella sticks and two toaster strudels. The toaster struddles are technically not meant to be fried, they have a tendency to absorb some oil. But the flavor is amazing. The dumplings get very crispy in the fryer but are fresh and...
