How much water does your washer use?

It doesn't take twice as long to dry clothes from a wringer vs. a spin dry. I have found that when I use the dryer for laundry from the wringer washer it's about 25% longer. Say a load would dry in 45 minutes from a 1,000 RPM spin in a front loader, to 1 hour for the same load run through a...

Photo to share - wringer washers

That restoration Is just awesome Brad! When I was a kid I never saw those REALLY old washers. All I saw was the square Maytag's or the round Speed Queens, Kenmore's and so on. But those 30's Maytag's were already old even when I was young. And those morphed into the next generation of white...

QUESTION.....who made the last wringer washer in US history?

I'd always heard . . That the fear of lawsuits stopped production too. In the old days if someone got hurt in the wringer, it was chalked up to their own carelessness. But by the 80's the TV was full of ads from ambulance chasing lawyers telling people NOTHING was their fault and they'd sue...

Photo to share - wringer washers

Used mine today! I thought I'd add to the thread since I had both the washer AND the camera ready! 5 loads in my June 1964, E2LP. It should last another 50 years!

    Easy Spindrier NIB!

Last week, I saw a "NEW" never been used but out of the box Maytag E2LPS on EBay for $1099.00 Seemed excessive. This EASY is a much better deal in my opinion. A childhood friend's Mom had one that they used in the late 60's. They sure were fun!

    E2lps ringer washer

Scoots is right! No need to overpay for one of these. They show up all the time on CL or EBay in ALL conditions and price ranges. There's one on Ebay now, says new, never been used, and it's probably true. But is it worth the $1,099 they're asking? It won't work any better than my 1964 used...

Polishing aluminum agitator - Maytag model 30

It's interesting when you think about it . . . That MANY of the washers predate our lives. And with just a little care and maintenance, have to potential to function long after we're gone! I can't say that about ANYTHING made new today!

Should I or should I not?

A pump!? Is that the pump know/switch on the front? Grandma's Speed Queen didn't have a pump. There was a knob on the side you pulled out to let the water out and pushed in to make the water stop. Her's didn't even have a hose on it. Dumped right into a bucket. Probably because it was used in...

Should I or should I not?

I'd use it! Even if I said I wouldn't, sooner or later the temptation would be too great and I'd cave. So better sooner than later. That says AMANA but looks a lot like a Speed Queen to me????

Polishing aluminum agitator - Maytag model 30

Isn't that Mother's Mag polish great? I've recommended it to lots of folks any it never disappoints. That agitator looks GREAT Brad! Since I use my E2LP as a daily driver, the tub has sadly, discolored. It doesn't affect washing performance and when I wash, if I need bleach or strong...

    Vintage wash-day for me today...

It must depend on what you wash but .. . Only 1 of my 4 washers ever had a lint filter. That was on my Whirlpool compact/portable. None of my other machines, including the E2LP has a filter and I've never noticed any difference. The dryer must take care of it because I always clean the filter...

    Vintage wash-day for me today...

Me too! 4 loads through my E2LP this morning. It's all I've been using for about the last year and a half now. It works flawlessly! And every time I use it I am somewhat transported back to the times as a "wee tike" helping, or thinking I was helping, Grandma with laundry in her Speed Queen...

    Are these Late 60s Maytags?

Again I remember being at the store When my Mom bought her Maytag in 1965. The salesman showed her the 30 second spin rinse between the wash and rinse cycles. He called that the first rinse. Instead of the 3 shorter spin rinses her old Kenmore had the Maytag had the 1 longer 30 second rinse...

    Lady Kenmore Wringer wont pump

About 25% less water removal with a wringer vs. a spin cycle is what I've found. But you can use a dryer. Just figure on it taking 25% more time to dry. But because of the less efficient use of the dryer, I also hang outside when the weather is nice. Most things go right on the line. The...

    kenmore portable washer in tucson.....

My first washer was one of these, But mine was a Whirlpool. It was a GREAT little washer. They were portable and mine rolled over to and hooked up to the kitchen sink in my apartment. They didn't hold as much but you could still wash a load of double bed sized sheets. Usually these were just...

    Kenmore Washer

1952 My mom's had this same machine and matching dryer. She said they bought it when my sister was born and 3 kids under 5 made too much laundry for the Speed Queen wringer. That sister was born in 1952.

What year is this maytag set. Like new works like a dream

My Mom's Was similar to the washer but in white. Probably a model line down as it didn't have a lighted control panel and no rinse temp control on the top. But it did have the suds saver. There were 2 additional buttons on the panel. "SAVE SUDS" and "DRAIN SUDS" Mom bought hers in March 1965.
