    my moms 1962 E2L vs A408

We had a Maytag Highlander in 1965 and I figured out the first week how to bypass the lid safety switch so I could watch it go through it's paces. It had great rollover! As good or better as the 1952 Kenmore it replaced. So I don't think the Maytag Engineers didn't want people to see it in...

    my moms 1962 E2L vs A408

Better cleaning, That's why those Grandmothers and old ladies refused to upgrade to Automatics. They just believed that the new Automatic washers just didn't clean as well. Less time consuming and a lot less manual labor but they wouldn't give up their wringers. That's how a lot of members got...

Please help! Wringer washer N2LS maytag

Sure can! I'd start with a wire brush. Then a good wet sanding over the still rough spots. If you can't remove all the pitting it won't affect the wash results but I'd bet you can smooth it all out. Aluminum isn't all that hard a metal. Then you can use a fine steel wool or SOS pads to finish...

Wringer Washers - Best and Worst

On our Speed Queen Yes, the wringer JUMPED apart when you hit the RELEASE bar but it took a lot of force to get it back into the working position. When I was 13 I could barely get it back into position. My Maytag easily resets with a turn of the tension bar on the wringer top. Also to move the...

Wringer Washers - Best and Worst

Wait a minute Stan! Looking at the pictures of Geoffs machines, The Harem, it appears the Model J is NOT a pump model. Look at it's drain hose end and see the difference.

Wringer Washers - Best and Worst

Just goes to show All wringers are similar but NOT the same. Maytag was the clear market leader. Well known for their quality, workmanship and reliability. The Cadillac of washers in that day. Even though they made the "value" J (Buick) and N (Chevrolet) models, they were still a bit more...

maytag master vs. maytag commander question?

I agree with the confusion Tomturbomatic expresses about the hinged top on the E2LP washers being an automatic. The other thing about to me as a kid, I associated a square machine with being Automatic while wringers were round. Most anyway. Speed Queen, Kenmores, GE, even Maytag N's were round.

    Wringer rollers

I disagree The wringers on E2L, J2L and N2L are identical and should be completely interchangeable. Any wringer assembly will fit and work on any of those Maytag model wringer washers. If anything the rollers are not the right diameter. I don't know who sold them to you but you may have been...

CBS CALLING OUT TO THE CLUB !!! IMMEDIATELY !!!

Baby Jane Hudson Had early Maytag automatics. With a few empty Bud 6 packs on top. Beer on TOP of her Gin and Scotch! When she's ordering from the liquor store. "Yea, the usual brands. And as FAST as possible!" My kind of gal!

Old Washing Machines Are Less Efficient and Consume More Energy

Your time is also worth something! If I do 5 loads in my front loader it would take 4.25 hours. I can do the same 5 loads in 1 hour in my Maytag wringer. Physically it's much more work but time has got to be worth something. And I do think I get a cleaner wash in the wringer. That thing has...

    Today's POD

What's the difference between the L6 and the LB6? When I was a kid a family on my block had one of these. I don't recall it having the load weight scale on the door so I'm wondering if that's the difference. I remember the RL-1's at the coin laundry. They were 20 cents a load where the top...

    Is this oil leak 'normal'?

Check on the top of the horizontal drive. There is a weep hole that vents out oil if the level in the power unit rises due to water leaking into it. It's common on old Maytags. The leaking oil travels along the top of the horizontal drive and then leaks down the left real leg of the washer...

    Maytag N2LP

Phil Hornyak at [email protected] He has anything you'd need for a Maytag Wringer. Dave at Dave's repair has helped me out with a lot of stuff too. He even got me a replacement tub for my corroded E2LP a few years ago. That's the nice thing about Maytags. There were just so many of them that...

    Maytag N2LP

It IS normal for the rollers to separate when putting clothes through the wringer. They'll also pop apart if they separate too widely. The thicker the material the more it will force the rollers apart. As for adjusting the 4 springs, I wouldn't recommend that. They should be tight and that is...

    Suds saver question

Septic systems were also a reason for suds savers. You put far less wash water in them preventing puddles of water from an overfilled septic tank in your yard. Both of my Mom's automatics, a 1952 Kenmore and a 1965 Maytag Highlander had suds returns. They can be very practical if used with...

    Is my Maytag wringer toast?

But... A machine can break any time. It doesn't matter if it ran yesterday or 10 years ago. One day you go to use something, and it won't work. Oh the Betrayal these machines can do to us! Let me know if you need any help.

    Is my Maytag wringer toast?

Power unit is locked up If you can't turn the pulley, and the motor can't either, it's because something locked up in the power unit. The only way to fix it it to dismantle it down to the power unit by taking the tub out and removing the center plate and figure out what's locking it up. I did...

Never Used Easy Spin-Drier in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area

I bet it's not that difficult but yes, the motor will have to come out to replace the cord. And by the looks of it, I wouldn't plug it in until you do! The cord terminals will have contacts, screws, in the motor. There's usually a cover on the motor held on with 2 screws. As long as you're at...

How old is my "new" Whirlpool Compact washer?

1980 I had this machine and I bought it in April, 1980, my very FIRST! A great little performer. The matching 110 V. dryer was the best compact/portable drier I ever had also. Mine had the sink/faucet adapter. I sold it with my condo in 1986 when I moved to Denver.
