Spa day for 2009 Huebsch 432

Alliance quality has been seriously overhyped for years. Their reliability in commercial applications tends to be poor. Also, why so many different brands? Everything Huebsch is also available under the SQ name. Then there's IPSO, and Primus, and Unimac... all this badge-engineering ends up...

    Talk about junk!

Small capacity from those whacking great old Kenmores, really?!

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

John, what Maytag have you got?

    Talk about junk!

The first-gen 4.0 AJ-V8 did have those chain issues you mention, as well as Nikasil bore-wear. Now, the high-sulphur fuel that caused that problem is long gone, but the Gen1.5 AJ-V8, as well as the Gen2 and Gen3 versions (4.2 and 5.0 respectively), have all had cast iron liners as well as better...

    duet dryer

Seriously - don't do it! The Duet will wash circles round the SQ. If you must have a matched set with a new top-loader, go for the new commercial Maytag.

    Talk about junk!

Vacerator, true to a certain extent, but you can tell a great deal about stuff like worn timing-chain guides and tensioners just by listening to the engine. It doesn't mean that catastrophic failure is imminent, but if you do hear any chain rattle, it's probably prudent to get those replaced...

    duet dryer

I would NOT ditch the Duet washer for the POS Speed Queen... if the dryer is beyond repair (unlikely!) then just get another dryer.

    Talk about junk!

I'm not sure I necessarily need a dipstick to prevent low oil level wrecking my engine. I can tell so much about how an engine is running just by listening...

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Fair enough! 112f is 44c - who the heck thought it was a good idea to create human habitation somewhere that hot?!

    Talk about junk!

Whereas my sensibilities are very European: I want real heft and feel to the helm, because otherwise it's impossible to place the car accurately on the road. My old E39 BMWs are great in this respect - not Porsche 911 constant-patter-of-info feelsome, but pretty close. They're light enough (not...

1990 Maytag a couple of issues

A882 isn't a Dependable Care, it's one of the last-ever classic Maytags with the turquoise agitator.

    Talk about junk!

Yeah, the idea with modern cars is that a sensor replaces the dipstick and is supposedly more accurate... not sure I buy it. There are better reasons to avoid modern cars, though, like cheapened suspension components and electrically-assisted power steering...

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

Joe (twintubdexter), you'd probably be horrified by my language in real life too... I just tend not to employ it here out of respect for our hosts and 99% of my fellow members!

    2018 Maytag vs. SQ

LeeLee, what you need is a good front-loader, preferably with an on-board heater. Normally I'd recommend Miele, but their honeycomb drum means grit/sand extraction isn't too great, but it's much gentler on delicate fabrics than a normal drum. I'd look for a front-loading machine - possibly...

    SQ TR7, TR5 & TR3 Verified glowing reviews

True, the Maytags are a bit sensitive to overloading, but as long as you don't... and with the perforated tubs, they extract and rinse better. The modern SQs always index even after multiple years in service unless you go very easy on loadings...

    Everything old is new again

Could you elucidate on the design of the GE FF and why it was so much more of a water-hog?

    CNET 2018 speed queen review

Why the big surprise? The new SQ can't clean - but neither could the old one. As for Combo52's laughable claim that the SQ front-loaders are the best in the world... only 1200rpm max spin at most, no heater, grumbly bearings, drums not deburred, noise from balance rings, shonky build quality...

    SQ TR7, TR5 & TR3 Verified glowing reviews

Let's face it - SQ top-loaders have always been crap, and the 2018 ones are just the shittest of the lot. The old 50s/60s solid-tubs? A Maytag, Filter-Flo, Frigidaire or Norge would wash circles round those things. The modern Raytheon Amana-derived beasts made up to the end of last year? The...

Do any other pics of these exist? Or even the machines themselves?
