I'm guessing this is the same thing as the Gyramatic? 30" wide, soft-mount, etc? Certainly looks much the same as chestermikeuk's Gyramatic. Why America didn't buy far more of these instead of the crude top-loaders Bendix was trying to move on from...

If you want the best-cleaning machine around by far (as well as likely the most durable), buy Miele. No contest.

Looks like the machines were distinctly secondhand when the ship was built. Personally, I'm not a fan of these gigantic floating tower blocks, with their slow speed and dubious seaworthiness... give me a real 30+knot ocean liner like the late lamented SS France any day.
