    POD 05/02/2018 - RCA Whirlpool EA-16 top-loader

I stand corrected! So just what did they mean by Free-Flow draining, if not a spin drain, given they boast it doesn't drain through the clothes? And just what the heck is a mineral-filled agitator when it's at home?!

    POD 05/02/2018 - RCA Whirlpool EA-16 top-loader

I'm guessing late 50s/early 60s here? 29" wide, only 25.5" deep - what's all that width doing, then?! Looks like a bottom-of-the-line machine, single-speed, no controls whatsoever other than the timer. Yet it mentions that the washer will fill with water (at the) temperature selected, but I...

    My new GE’s ( bye-bye Maytag forever )

Ditto, what's wrong with Maytags? Lovely GE pair though.

    POD 02/02/2018 - Sears Kenmore 11651 centre-dial 2-speed washer & 61651 dryer

Handsome looking machines, these - am I right in guessing probably mid-late 1970s build date for these? They'd obviously ditched the "Lady Kenmore" marketing by this point. No heated rinse option, I notice - so presumably this is a middle-of-the-line machine?

POD 01/02/2018 - Bendix Tumble Agitator front-load washer

I'm guessing this is the same thing as the Gyramatic? 30" wide, soft-mount, etc? Certainly looks much the same as chestermikeuk's Gyramatic. Why America didn't buy far more of these instead of the crude top-loaders Bendix was trying to move on from...

Looking for help deciding what type of washer to buy....

If you want the best-cleaning machine around by far (as well as likely the most durable), buy Miele. No contest.

Self-service laundry on board our cruise ship

Askolover, the QM2 is the only ship in the Cunard fleet built to proper seaworthiness standards. The modern-day Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria are just standard off-the-shelf cruise sheds... Personally, I think that the way forward is COSAG, like the old County-class guided missile...

    Liberator?

Ta muchly! I'd heard as much. Whereabouts in God's own county are you?

Self-service laundry on board our cruise ship

Alas, I am too young to have had any experience of a real liner, and I fear I never shall... but to batter your way across the North Atlantic in winter at 30+ knots must have been quite something.

    Looking for a thread...

A month's subscription is, I am told, a mere $4. RevvinKevin kindly gifted me a month's membership for Christmas. I found myself using the features available only to members so little that I have yet to renew.

    HOOVER A3268 Computer Control 1100

HooverZanMiele, what's that Bosch in your pic? Looks like my WFT2800 (which has just blown its control board!) but with the word Logixx in place of the model number...

    Liberator?

Any chance of 'money shots' of the two machines' drums? I presume the dryer is vented rather than condensing...

Self-service laundry on board our cruise ship

Looks like the machines were distinctly secondhand when the ship was built. Personally, I'm not a fan of these gigantic floating tower blocks, with their slow speed and dubious seaworthiness... give me a real 30+knot ocean liner like the late lamented SS France any day.

    Liberator?

Holy thread revival! This foul necromancer would rather like to know if any more of these have turned up, whether Keymatic still has his, or indeed whether any of the big 30" Westinghouse designs made it over here...

    New Tariffs On Washing Machines

Nice Novotronics, Enduring - and how apt, given we've been talking extensively about quality vs cheapness. Those machines must be at least 15 years old, possibly 20 or more... alas, even Miele is not what it once was. BTW, how is it legal to exclude trade unions from factories? Despite Maggie...

    POD 26/01/2018 - Philco-Bendix W-284N 2-speed TL, Duomatic & DE-624 "Wrinkle-Free" dryer

Condensing? Interesting - I'd been told the 30" Bendix dryers were vented. I know the Frigidaires of that era were condensing.

    POD 26/01/2018 - Philco-Bendix W-284N 2-speed TL, Duomatic & DE-624 "Wrinkle-Free" dryer

I'm guessing this must be from around 1957? I think I read that '58 was the last year of the 36" Duomatic before the new narrow-body machine replaced it. Clearly the 30" Gyramatic front-load washer must have been discontinued by this point, at least in the US market. Does anyone know what the...

    It's Frigidaire Friday!

If we're going to play this game, it's got to be Philips or Philco Phriday, Siemens Saturday, Servis Sunday and Miele Monday from a British/European perspective... and surely for you chaps it must be Westinghouse Wednesday? If only there was a day of the week that begun with a B, there are LOADS...

New Maytag commercial top load washer video.

Some Mieles had full-width decor doors with either a glass or solid plastic bowl behind.

POD 17/01/2018 - Norge washer, gas dryer & water heater

Bob, I've had a damn good go at reading the small print and got more than halfway down, with a bit of guesswork and shape recognition to fill in the gaps, before it became wholly illegible... "Do 10 full-size sheets in one load or just a small handful of wash… with only the water you need...
