    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

I have three different carts I run on my Technics SL1200, The Signet from 1988, an Empire with the pink headshell, (can't remember which it is, I think it's from about the early 90's) and a Shure V15 III. Sound quality wise, the Shure is the best and it has an original, correct needle in it...

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

@kenwashesmonday, LOL, well we won't talk about the fun we had at an Antique mall when we tested out the various victrolas with Little Richard Tutti Frutti. That got some attention in the busy mall. (The record was an Ebay sale that went sour, it has a steadily worsening crack in it.)

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

@tolivac, They also don't like Jack Daniels Or Jim Beam ;-) Technics SL1200 in nighclubs have a hard life. :-) My Glaser Steers is currently using a Stanton DJ cart, it works, but I don't use that changer that much.

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

@arbilab, Some of the early Collaro/Magnavox have been succesfully switched over to magnetic carts. But I think you're missing the big picture. Norgeway really isn't interested in concert level sound quality, he wants an original Westie as it sits. Also, certain VM can support magnetic carts...

    Home Heating..

@norgeway, That might actually be what my parents (1950's house) had until 1988. And you're right, that furnace was amazing. However, we couldn't put an A/C coil on it, and the swamp/evaporative coolers just weren't cutting it anymore.

    Home Heating..

parent's house-Natural Gas. Trane gas fired put in probably around 2005. The water heater is a tankless and it's awesome. My house, Electric. I despise electric heat.

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

norgeway, GE used from this time frame usually used Garrard, or a special VoM designed for GE exclusively. By the late 60's they had switched a GE branded changer but I'm not sure what the base brand was.

    Westinghouse Stereo/Hi Fi...

actually your assesment of Westinghouse is not entirely true, arbilab. I have an early sixties Westinghouse Hi Fi stereo. The changer is a Voice of Music, which is much, much better on records than Monarch/BSR. The amp is a single end 7591, which about ten watts. The speakers are 8 inch and 4...

    My Old Cabinet Stereo

@Sayakasand The record player itself it's a Voice of Music, which does help a little on value. The VM changers are much easier on records, plus it is the 2G arm that tracks a lot lighter. Honestly, maybe $30 at most. It's a later model. The ones that do better are from the mid 60s, the...

    My Old Cabinet Stereo

@paulg, Monarch was a completely seperate company, they evovled into BSR. During a limited time, Zenith built their own changers, and that's the model that's being shown in the pictures. They were ALMOST audiophile quality, even though ceramic cartridges. 99% of the Cobramatic changers were...

    8-track tapes/players

we still have a Panasonic stereo from the late 70's that can record them. It has a BSR changer with a Pickering magnetic cart. My Grandmother's old Morse Electrophonic console (which I have)from the early 80's also has a 8 track.

Tech says my 1947 Simmons Electric Blanket is FIXED!

the controller has three tubes in it. 6SN7, 6SL7 and a GL 1367. The 1367 (gas thyraton) has two functions, it controls the relay that controls the heater circuit in the blanket and it's also the protection circuit. If there's a problem in the blanket and/or controller, the tube goes out/stops...

Tech says my 1947 Simmons Electric Blanket is FIXED!

OMG, you have no idea how happy this makes me. This is what I have The control has tubes in it, and the blanket itself is beyond awesome. It's the most even heating blanket, and it really does adjust itself according to body heat, etc. It's dead on. I've spent a fortune on it, but what...

HVAC Brands of the Past. Where are they now?

My favorite "old brand" is Friederich, used to be made in Texas. There's an old grocery store in my home town, said store became a gameroom, is now closed. This store has the granddaddy of all Friedrich split units, made probably in the mid 60's. The condensing unit sits on top of the store...

    Looking for opinions

    1. Well water can be a blessing or a curse. My cousin and her kids live in Lubbock, they are on a well, and that water is OMG Manna from Heaven good, its the most smoothest tasting water I've ever experienced. The only way to find out if the well water is good is taste it. As for city water...

Anyone know about wiring UK wall switches in the US?

@cadman, THAT's the brand I was thinking about. Those things were crazy. I've seen them with 4 plugs per unit.

Anyone know about wiring UK wall switches in the US?

Again, just saying what he said, and YMMV. (Your Milage May Vary) If it were me, I wouldn't try it and stick with American switch, which there are similar ones available.
