Todays thrifty finds. A Foodsaver and a 5" Sony tv

What do bags cost for the FoodSaver? I had an old Seal-A-Meal years ago, but the bags were kind of pricey.   The little Sony is very stylish.

    Sandy's Amana

I only did further research because I was kind of interested in the Kitchenaid dryer next to the refrigerator!    Alas, it wasn't meant to be.

    Sandy's Amana

I wonder if this is a fake ad? According to a Google search there is a BrightSide Thrift Store in Redmond, Oregon. But nothing pops up for a Brightside thrift in Wisconsin, Green Bay or otherwise. Whenever I see an email address plastered on top of a photo as in this Craigslist ad, I'm suspicious.

A pictorial of our Restore today

Your ReStore looks like a Bloomingdale's compared to our local ReStore. Everything looks so clean and tidy. Our ReStore looks like a slightly organized landfill, by comparison.

You know what's really, really intresting?

Goody! I will have to stop and look for Cascade Professional Fryer Boil Out (or is it "Broiler Fry Out"?) the next time I'm near a GFS. In my experiments with the current version of Cascade Complete Action Pacs, I've had good results, but it is nice to also have a powdered dishwasher detergent...

Welcome back to 1974, my kitchen redo

Looks great! There are companies, the ones who do epoxy re-coating of bathtubs, that will do other objects, as well. Some of those will only do a clear-coat or same-color coat, but some will do an epoxy finish in a different color than the original. It's hard to say how durable it would be, but...

    Congrats! Looks nice.

    avocado kenmores

My impression, from reading what some of the repair people on this board have to say, is that the belt-drive Kenmores (which I believe this one is), while fun to have in a collection, are becoming more complicated to use as daily drivers. As Nick says, parts are becoming more difficult to find...

    Mark 27 Drop-In

I wonder if the problems with getting drop-in stoves perfectly level is why they are uncommon today? It seems you would need an old-time craftsman doing your cabinet and countertop work to guarantee good results, and craftsmen like that are in short supply these days.

    Kenmore Ultra Wash

It looks good! I'm not familiar with how the lower arm comes off, but someone will come along who knows. I wanted to mention that if you check Craigslist periodically, sometimes replacement racks are listed for sale. I was able to find a NOS Kitchenaid rack with the bump out for sale, and it...

    Finished Capehart

It looks great! Is that a TV lamp on top in the right rear corner?

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

Phil, the speakers will fit within the stereo stand, on the bottom shelf, on the left and right sides. It's not the best for stereo separation, but it will look the best. That is the way the stereo stand was designed originally to be used. The maximum available space for each speaker is 27"...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

Electrohome That's a groovy set - a chair with built-in speakers, and a cocktail table with a built-in turntable. In the future, all furniture will multi-task. The Electrohome name doesn't ring any bells. I wonder if it was primarily sold north of the border?

    Savory Oats

Grits are flexible that way, in that they are served with either a sweet or savory flavoring. Oatmeal is probably better for you than grits, I suppose. The texture of oatmeal is different from grits and rice, though. That might be a reason why oatmeal isn't traditionally served in a savory...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

The stereo stand has been polished twice with chrome cleaner, coated with alloy wheel sealer, and I've replaced all of the clear plastic pegs that hold the glass shelves in place. If I have time tomorrow, I'll take it to the glass shop to have new glass shelves cut. Originally, it came with...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

Chair plus built-in speakers I came across this oddity on Craigslist. I don't have room for anything like this, but it is very era-appropriate. The tag says it is made by "Lee Co., Burbank, California." Why interact with others when you can sink into your egg chair, and shut the world out? Of...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

Phil, those items all look appropriately futuristic. The Panasonic speakers look like they would be the right size for my stereo stand. It would probably not be too difficult for me to make a "sock" of speaker cloth so I could cover up the woodgrain. Most speakers seem to have a woodgrain...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

I do like Syd Mead's futuristic illustrations. He illustrated a book for, I believe, U.S. Steel a long time ago. It had a limited print run and is also highly popular with collectors. It's on my wish list. One of my inspiration pieces is this New Haven wall clock, which I found at a church...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

Grundig Audiorama Gary, those Grundig speakers are awesome! Apparently they were originally round, and then sometime recently they started making them again in an elliptical shape. I think they may be out of production again. In searching, I came across this version in the photo, which was...

    Omnidirectional Stereo Speakers

More Empire speakers Hydralique, are these the Empire speakers you're thinking of? I found a listing (expired) for them on eBay. They were called Empire Model Jupiter 6500 speakers. They apparently have a down-firing big speaker at the bottom, and I suppose the two smaller speakers on the side...
