The short life of a Whirlpool Duet

Rusted Shock So far, she runs quiet, even during the fastest spin. So, her bearings are still good. However, some water has been dripping over the years, causing one of the strut legs to rust. To get her fixed, the whole front panel and boot will have to come off. Plus, a new boot ordered and...

The short life of a Whirlpool Duet

Small tear on the boot OK, the tear is only on the flange and is not the cause of any leak. I tried repairing it with some rubber glue, but it just peeled off after it dried. If anybody has ideas, I'd like to know!

The short life of a Whirlpool Duet

Detergent Dispenser It was bad when I got it, plenty of deposits that looked like rust or perhaps it could be a red mold. Not sure. But, it cleaned out for the most part and there is no evidence of foul odors. Of course, I thoroughly cleaned where I could. Then, I gave her some meds (a couple...

The short life of a Whirlpool Duet

I picked this up at a local Rent-A-Center. It cleaned up nice, and overall the condition seems reasonable. But sadly, it has a few issues and may be on its last legs. It's harder to tell by looking at the outside. But rather, one must pear under the toe panel to get an idea of its overall...

1-18 Picture of the Day and British Rarities

Circle jet spray rinse That's a help, yes. But there's more to it than that. That big, wide, rocket agitator. Well, it's like a rocket; what can I say? I love rockets, BIG rockets. I guess GM made their washing machines to mimic a moon launch with every load. But, instead of a plume of smoke...

"Alice" has a personality that my HE front loader There is no machine that ever existed that's more fun to use than a Frigidaire 1-18 or Rollermatic. As Saltysam said, the turnover is great and the cleaning is very effective. Like a Harley Davison motorcycle, they have a sound and feel that's...

Repairman Gone & So Is The Leak!

Still; I would rather spend the money to fix this, rather than buy a new one that may not last as long. NorfolkSouthern

Repairman Gone & So Is The Leak!

A very wise choice I think this machine stands a better chance at lasting a while than what gets produced these days. On the Rustoleum: Although I did end up with a paint chip now and then, I haven't had a problem with my cloths being "ruined" after I treated the inner tub. Most likely, I'll...

    Are these any fun?

The Whirlpool is better It is much easier to find parts for a direct-drive Whirlpool than it would be for a WCI-made GE portable. These plastic GE's are also surprisingly common, while a direct-drive Whirlpool is fairly rare. You really have to look for them, much like you would a Frigidaire...

Oh, the Bendix is small potatoes; I'm waiting 'till he gets a 200 pound capacity Unimac. And if he does, I'll want to go see it! NorfolkSouthern

    should i even try.....

Get an older Maytag top loader: HE front loaders are prone to bearing problems, and the Neptune is no exception. To get the bearing out of your 4000, you'll need to either rent, or purchase a $500.00 tool. Or, make your own bearing puller. Some club members know how to do this. But before you...

1950ish Easy spinner WITH SEE THROUGH GLASS WINDOWS!!

Looks like this one's gonna disappear in a museum some place at the rate this auction is going. It would have been nice seeing it go to one of the members, at least we could have got a video. NorfolkSouthern

    *RIP* Whirlpool BD Portable Washer

That sounds good I'm not sure how soon I plan on digging into mine, but I do plan to eventually replace the timer and get a new tub ring at least. If I can keep enough parts, then maybe I can start using it on a regular basis. It may be a while before I upload any photos, as it is a bit of a...

    *RIP* Whirlpool BD Portable Washer

You know... I forgot to mention: That guy said you can buy a "whole new machine" for $400.00. Oh, sure you can. But I had a taste of those last Summer with a rusted out Whirlpool HE Calypso, and before that I almost acquired a Haire portable that leaked. I left that in the dumpster. But if you...

When he gets the cabinet off: See if you can save the timer and the white, plastic two-piece tub ring if he still thinks the machine is not worth fixing. Also, remove and save all the knobs, including the plastic timer dial indicator. The knob to the timer can be removed by screwing it back...

New Stinky FLs hit the news!

Never had this problem Well, for one thing my Zerowatt does heat the water to high temps. Plus, I wipe down the boot after each run, and once in a while I'll open the trap and swab up the water left in the sump and leave it to dry. The big difference between mine and these fancy HE gadgets...

    *RIP* Whirlpool BD Portable Washer

Save the parts! I really hope you don't intend to scrap this machine, Laundress. As I have said before, many parts are very difficult to find. They may be valuable. The timer alone, used and in good condition, is probably worth $40.00. And then there's the plastic two-piece tub ring among other...
