    Color Matching

Hello there, Is historical archive or anything on GE Appliance Colors? I have a KitchenAid/Hobart dishwasher that I would like to have painted to match a 70's era Avocado GE Refrigerator. I was able to match a GE Yellow color once, by taking a drawer from a GE metal kitchen cabinet to...

Maytag A-806 leaking from bottom of tub

UPDATE: still leaky I finally had a chance to look at my leaky Maytag. It’s seems to becoming mostly from the thing underneath the tub (but we all know how weird water can be).

    Avocado KitchenAid leak disaster :-)

D No more leaks, but it didn’t drain all the way either. John, I got this literally off a scrap pile, and I wouldn’t know a door switch or inlet valve if it came up and introduced itself :-) The kitchen in this house has a BOL 00’s Frigidaire dishwasher that is finicky and louder than a...

    Avocado KitchenAid leak disaster :-)

It worked much better with the lower spray arm in place. :-) The driveway is as level as anything in the house.

    Avocado KitchenAid leak disaster :-)

So I finally got around to booking up the portable KA dishwasher (in Avocado!) it has a rather huge leak on the right hand side of the upper rack. It makes me think there’s a hose or plug missing. Any ideas?

Maytag A-806 leaking from bottom of tub

Hello there, Our Maytag A-806 hat started to leak. I took the front off, and it is coming from the bottom of the tub. We’re about 2 hours from the nearest repair service, and I’m afraid they’re going to tell me we need a new machine. Any thoughts on what may be causing this leak, and how hard...

    Presto Control Master

I was able to pry the knob up a bit (didn't want to force it too much since it's old) and got some cleaner in there. It works much better now! Although I'm a little worried that if it heats up again it might get stubborn again. In that case, I'll bite the bullet and take the knob off.

    Presto Control Master

Thanks! I'm glad to know it's fixable. :-) John, I have two avocado Presto Electric Pressure cookers (one branded as Sears), two of those yellow electric skillets like the one in the picture, and two larger avocado electric skillets with that same pattern on the lid. I used to have the...

    Presto Control Master

Hi There, I have a Presto Control Master with timer. (somewhat rare and visually spectacular, if one is into that sort of thing) Recently the thermostatic control dial has become very hard to move. Is there a way to clean the innards, or does that just happen when these controls start to fail?

Betty Crocker - Minneapolis history that deserves to be remembered

I worked as a temp at Betty Crocker back in the late 80's. I put together one of them new-fangled Excel spreadsheets that showed instant mashed potato sales. They did best in the south and on military bases. Two things stick out for me: 1) The lobby had paintings of all the versions of Betty...

    KitchenAid KDC-59 leaking

Hello everybody, I found a Hobart era KitchenAid KDC-59 portable dishwasher (in Avocado!) hooked it up to test it, and it promptly leaked all over the floor. Any ideas what may be going on?

    Vintage Sears Electric Fireplace

Grandfather clock The clock is a traditional wind up clock from Germany. Its Art Deco styling puts it in the 20’s or 30’s (which, as everyone knows, was not a good time for Germany). We found it in a junk store in Tacoma. The only thing it needed was a new piece of glass over the pendulums...

    Vintage Sears Electric Fireplace

It works! So it turns out it was a problem with the wiring block (duh on my part) . Someone bypassed the heater, but it’s happily humming (and heating) away now. The only thing I’m not crazy about is that it doesn’t have a neutral, but I’ll figure that out later. After I dust off the heater...

    Vintage Sears Electric Fireplace

I think I'm going to be out there this weekend or early next week. I'll take some pictures and post them then. Thanks!

    Vintage Sears Electric Fireplace

Hi There, This is definitely an oddity, but I'm hoping someone out there might have some advice. We have a Sears fake fireplace from the 1960's. It's super cute, made to look like a stone fireplace in a suburban home of that era. It has a built-in fake log, with the spinning disk to make it...
