new Bosch dishwasher - my opinion

Zsa Zsa, check the owner's manual for the high heat rinse setting. I've done that with my Bosch and it works very well. Some plastics will still have a bit of water, but to me that's better than having them melt on exposed heaters. We've had ours since 2004. Do periodically check the filter in...

CR Creates New Dishwasher Detergent Test/Standard

Finish Quantum I started using Quantum when it was released. It cleans very well, though with our crappy water I will occasionally throw some Lemi-Fresh in the Bosch dishwasher to keep the stainless steel looking good. Back in February I bought two aluminum ice cream scoops. The silver colored...

New (to me) in the Spice Isle at the market---

Thanks Lawrence! May have to give this a try. My mother used to order bulk paprika from Paprikas Weiss in New York City. Usually 3-4 pounds at a time that would last about a year. Sadly, they are out of business. The richness of it was incredible and I have never found a paprika since that has...

    Having fun with phone photography

It does do pretty good picts. I use mine more than my Nikon. For more photo fun try an app called FxCamera, there are probably others out there. Especially with the old TBird, you can take some fun photos of it.

Two typewriters were added to my collection this past week.

Forgot This One I talked to my sister this morning. At 70, she's in the midst of learning In Design after years of working with Pagemaker on her MAC. From her first typing business, she now publishes two magazines in the Phoenix area. I asked if she bought or leased her IBM machines. She said...

Two typewriters were added to my collection this past week.

Flying Keys Was watching my sister type on the D and almost got hit by a flying piece from one of the keys. She was pissed that the machine broke. When she was in high school, her teacher made her an example to the class of how bad of a typist she was at the time. Sis got mad and was determined...

Two typewriters were added to my collection this past week.

Beautiful Machines! And that would have been a units cheat sheet on that one machine. Those Executives had the most beautiful type. I think the Ds are my favorite IBM machines. One of my older sisters had a typing business. She started with a regular IBM C model, but as business improved she...

    Cadillac Ciel

Rather pretty It's interesting that they capture the flavor of older Cadillac design. I'm seeing 1967 Eldorado and even some 1965-68 in this. Oddly, I'm also seeing the slab side Lincolns too. I've always loved Cadillacs, but not a current fan of what they are doing with them.

    Bendix Rotary Iron

You might try a good fabric store or one that specializes in quilts. I had good luck with my old Ironrite using a product called Warm and Natural batting. It was about the right thickness and I just cut the batting to size and rewrapped my drum.

How many here still like/drink Kool-Aid?

Grape Kool-Aid We drank Kool-Aid as kids pretty much year round. What I don't understand with this thread is...flavors? You mean to say Kool-Aid came in different flavors? There must have been a problem with the distributor in Phoenix as my parents only bought grape Kool-Aid. We never got any...

    thinking of buying an overlocker/serger

Viking Tom, if you like Viking, see if your shop may have a used 910 or 936 serger. Those were pretty good units, two speeds and the 936 will do the cover stitch. I used to sell Viking as well until I jumped ship.   Launderess, I laughed when I saw your post. Yes, just like my customers! I...

    thinking of buying an overlocker/serger

New Language Allen, I work part time selling sewing machines and sergers...guess what brand. I have had "ladies" come in and start four letter word cursing a blue streak about their serger. Many years ago I do recall a combination serger/sewing machine, but I don't believe there is a current...

    thinking of buying an overlocker/serger

Babylock Will it be useful? It depends on the type of sewing you are doing. Are you sewing a bunch of knits? Is speed in construction more important that finish? You'll find lots of opinions on when to use a serger and for what type of finish. You get a serger in addition to your sewing machine...

Lazy Bones - Making Ribs in a Slow Cooker

Thanks! I tried the recipe yesterday using some very thick boneless porkchops. They turned out great! Will now have to try it on some ribs.

Making A DVD Using .MPEG2 Files (or other format)

I found a free program called Any Video Converter. The link is below. I wanted something that would convert the movies from my HTC EVO to a format I could use in Adobe Premier Pro. The program so far has worked very well. And echoing what Tim said, check what DVDs will work in your player. Mine...

Are self checkout lines a thing of the past?

More time to talk? Just get me the heck out of the store as fast as possible. I'm sure the cashier is nice and dealing with the public takes the patience of a saint, but I just want to get my stuff rung up and be on my way. I finally called Vons and had them remove my name from their discount...

GPS Users Please Advise: Garmin 3790?

TomTom and Sony Check with Amazon for their deals of the day. We recently added a TomTom XXL540 to mix here from one of their deals. Posted the link below. Just double check what they are selling to make sure it is a relatively current model. I got a Sony NavU about 2 1/2 years ago that was...

Now this is the way to Iron, the MASUDAYA way!

I'll have to keep an eye on that link. My decals are different, but the body is the same. Oh, and mine must be 110v.

    Seriously Contemplating a Restaurant

Another Book Lawrence, that is a great cookbook! I had suggested that one to Michael over on the other website. My copy is very well worn and I've made a lot of the dishes in it. The Sterns have many cookbooks that feature regional recipes. Another of their books, A Taste of America also has...

    New Stove Suggestions?

Best Buy Again, thanks for all the great input about the ranges, a lot to think about. The kitchen redo is still a few months off. Yesterday took a bit of time and went to Best Buy to see some stoves in person. We bought the washer/dryer there and some TVs for the house. We were greated by...
