    Stuck on seized Westinghouse pump

Good news, everybody I managed to get the pump freed up!  Penetrating oil, gentle heat, and good whack with a hammer got the pump turning again!    Again, I'll chronicle the entire restoration but this is going well so far.  Stay tuned...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

WK detergent dispensers Ken, here's a picture of the detergent dispenser on the Waste King Universal dishwasher.  There are 3 sections - an 'open' section below a dual divided and covered cup.  The open section is shown in the first picture - this was intended for use during the pre-wash for...

    "Final Arrangements" For Your Collection

It has been deeded and notarized that my Hubby, Chris, will pre-decease me ONLY so that he won't have to deal with my "collections"... LOL   There are ranges, refrigerators, TV and Hi-Fi consoles, dozens of washers, dryers, and dishwashers, hundreds of small appliances, several hundred LPs...

Torx bit trick Thanks, Robert!  I hadn't thought of trying that.  But I will....

Wasn't 1960 also the last year that the ABC line was offered?

    Stuck on seized Westinghouse pump

Thanks, John!  I will give that a try!    I agree that it's not the best pump design; like I mentioned, I'm prepared to sub in a modern washer drain pump if need be to bring this dishwasher back to life.

    Stuck on seized Westinghouse pump

I started tearing into the 1950 Westinghouse dishwasher that jumped on the truck from Ohio last fall. The poor thing must have sat with water in the sump and pump for a good spell... the pump was full of water scale and it will not budge. I am currently fighting the setscrew on the impeller...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

I had to test it... My source hot water was probably not all that hot - I was running house hot water tgrough the garden hose in Ogden. In the 2nd rinse, the dishwasher filled, the timer clicked one increment, then the dishwasher paused with just the heater running. It took 21 minutes but the...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

Finishing up the Waste-King Universal dishwasher work I had it stuck in my thick head that the thermostat was not good because it tested 'open'. Looking through service documentation for it and other dishwashers, it finally dawned on me that the thermostat here was meant to close when the...

    National Coop Dishwaher?

SOLD! To me... I put it on my eBay watchlist and *boom*, I got a 'special offer' from the seller for less than I was considering offering so I bought it!  The pumps on both the 61 WP portable and the 63 built-in seem fine but why take the chance, right??  LOL

Motor and Pump Assembly for GE Mobile Maid SP40P

The impeller should come off the motor shaft - it could be frozen in place due to exposure to water over the years.  I used to take a 'gentle approach' but now I'd suggest heating it with a torch and then trying to remove the bolts.

    National Coop Dishwaher?

WP Dishwasher pump Alan, that's it alright!  Also used on a 1961 WP portable that I have.  I think I have to have this for sure!!

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

Thermostat I extracted the high-limit thermostat from the Waste-King Universal dishwasher today. I am guessing it should be on until the desired temperature is reached and it will then click off; further assuming that the timer will stop running and pause the dishwasher until the final rinse...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

Waste King progress I completed several successful water tests this weekend, minus the thermostat.  As expected, the heater was on during the main wash and there was a brief pause in the second rinse to boost the hot water temperature.   I still have to remove and test that thermostat, but I...

    question for paul turquoisedude

They do turn up.... But they are getting harder and harder to find.  I recently found a matched Maytag set in Harvest Gold (A407 washer and DE407 dryer) at an estate sale.  That is probably the most likely place that an Inglis set would turn up - there were LOTS of Inglis appliances sold in...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

Applying some heat Today's test: reconnect the heater and see what happens... As I suspected, the heating unit came on during the main wash. It got hot and a bit smoky due to accumulated shmutz on the heater coil.   Next up:  water testing!  It'll be a chance to flush out the dirt and dust...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

Bob, I guess I have too much "GE History" where after the last rinse drain the pump stayed off.   I got surprised by the 62 KDS54 when I thought I could disconnect and store the hoses after the last rinse drain.  Nope.... LOL    The current daily driver at the "city" house is that 66...

    Questions about a Waste-King dishwasher

Further testing I found a copy of a users manual for this dishwasher (a scan from a fellow collector) and was hoping to find out a little more about the cycling operation of this machine.   The question in my head was how the heater unit was powered with a jumpered connection to the...
