    The GE lives!

Thanks MiHi, it was $20 on Craigslist. So far I'm in it about $10 in wiring. :)

    The GE lives!

Thanks to those who helped on my hunting for a 1936 GE refrigerator manual. I started rewiring this machine because the original wiring was rubber and in an unsafe condition. Being a moron, I didn't make a copy of the relay wiring diagram when I started running new leads and thought I broke the...

One's on order but I'm impatient! And you never know who else might have something lurking in the garage:)

Let's Talk About Vintage Refrigerators For Minute

Just adding my $.02 The evaporator (freezer section) on early refrigerators wasn't aluminum. The earliest monitor tops used porcelain, most after that were steel, and I think 1930s Frigidaires were plated brass. I would think aluminum would be way too easy to puncture by overzealous defrosting...

I know many of you know that Mike Arnold passed in November, but I tried logging onto his old site today, and the domain is expired. Just FYI.

I've already said the Catholic prayer I learned in second grade. I hope he's in peace.

Anyone need GE Monitor Top parts?

Here's a sad one... This was a running 1928-1930 DR3 series Monitor top. Its probably a '28 because of the early early evaporators. A gas line was breached, and its sat outide for years. I'll probably end up saving just the hardware from it.

Anyone need GE Monitor Top parts?

Four of them are SO2, one of them is Methyl formate. I suppose you could harvest SO2, but you'd need a gas cylinder, the appropriate fittings, and the funky gas valve. Its doable, but I don't have the parts for it yet. :)

Anyone need GE Monitor Top parts?

It was an impressive collection before they were left outdoors for years on end. One machine I think is salvagable, two are good for parts, and two are marginably salvagable.

Anyone need GE Monitor Top parts?

I just found a cache of 5 GE monitor tops, all in bad condition and mostly suitable for parts. The owner wants them out soon and is willing to part out machines. If anyone needs parts for a machine, email me and I'll see what I can do. Thanks, Chris

For those that move old refrigerators regularly..

How long do you wait to start a machine up after it has been transported on its side? I have a 1936 GE (SO2 and running just fine) but it needs to be moved soon. I don't want to get mineral oil in the refrigerant but I don't know how long to let it sit before starting it up again. Thanks!

    Vintage refrigerator folks ?

Well I've got a 1937 Frigidaire D3-37 (the baby fridge) a 1936 GE V5 flat top and a GE monitor top CK-30. They're all in storage, but I hope to have at least one of them running and doing its thing by the end of summer. Let me know if I can help with fridge stuff.
