    Movies with Appliances Being Used

My late husband and I had this set in the mid 1970's. We sold our previous home along with the 1-18s in it. We should have kept them. Unfortunately, our set like the one shown was WCI made, so they rusted quickly and had an anemic spin speed. But neither appliance needed any repairs in the time...

Taming a Rollermatic - Custom Deluxe style!

In my experiences, the Unimatics were known to spin small items into the outer tub. The 1-18's had a spin clutch that was not all that robust.

What is your favorite washer of all time?

My favorite washer of all time is a tie between the 1950's Frigidaire Unimatic, and the 1970's Frigidaire 1-18.

what would be your dream vintage dishwasher to own in 2025

My 1968 Whirlpool portable top-loader cleaned and dried every bit as well as my current Bosch 800. It was also very nice looking with its well-designed control panel.

    Resurrection of the Whirlpools

My ex-wife and her husband still have, and use, the 806 pair she and I bought in the 70's. Over all the years, they just kept having them repaired when needed. It's still been cheaper than purchasing a new set, even when they had to replace. He is tech savvy and has replaced the motor and...

Maytag Presents: The Story of Clothes Drying - 16mm Film

In 1962, my parents bought a Maytag laundry pair. The dryer was one of the first HOH machines with an electronic dry control. It had the HOH tiny drum with the lint filter mounted on the back of the drum. I did indeed dry perfectly, even if the items were mixed, but it was painfully slow with...

    Love/hate relationship with my Kirbys

My family still has the Kirby they bought in 1952, and it still works. Back then, they only had cloth bags and were toxic dust squirters. Over the years, parts have been replaced, including the motor. A vacuum repair shop modified it for disposable bags. The only vacuum I've had that was a fussy...

What is your favorite washing machine?

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, my favorite washer of all time was our 1974 Frigidaire 1-18. If it had a fault, it would be that it was kinda noisy. Next or the list are these machines: 2. 1980's TOL Whirlpool direct drive. 3. 1970 Maytag 806--Other than design and reliability, there...

    POD 2-28-25

We had one with the famous "potato pulley" and there was nothing it couldn't get clean. I also found that it could hold more laundry than it looks like it could. Our Queen comforter was a tight fit, but when the water hit it, it tumbled just fine and didn't tangle.

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

During his latest visit, my younger made fun of me for still using bar soap and not body washes. I do have to be careful because I'm allergic to most soaps of any kind. Ivory used to be an exception to that, as did Zest. Both must have been reformulated over the past years and now my "itchity"...

    Garage Dishwasher

Although a dishwasher owner's manual will advise against using the machine for any other purposes other than those for which it was intended, I've always wanted a dishwasher for utility use. Because of its size, an old GE bowtie impeller Mobile Maid, would have been perfect. Washing filters...

What is the worst dishwasher you've ever owned?

My worst dishwashers were a 1959 DM made Frigidaire portable with a plastic impeller and a late 70's GE built-in Potscrubber. The GE was festooned with cycle buttons and cycle modifier buttons. Lots of options, but no food particle filter. The GE had no less than 6 water changes...

1960s? Pink stack Westinghouse W/D info

My aunt and uncle lived in a large mobile home that had 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in the early 1960's. They had a set of these stacking Westinghouse machines. I remember them doing a very good job, and the dryer could run on 120 or 240 volts.
