Using 1966 Amway S-A-8 Detergent Compound - will it work?

So, on a whim, I purchased a NEVER BEFORE OPENED sales kit that contained samples of Amway's 1966 "S-A-8 Detergent Compound"--approved by McCall's magazine no less! It contained four samples, still wrapped in cellophane.

    LED Xmas Trees

And not to mention the shameful rip off of the consumer - $20 for Christmas lights. Pa-LEASE! I'll remain in my 1950-early 80s Christmas light wonderland, thank you.

    LED Xmas Trees

In general, I find the new LED lights horribly tacky - overly bright, and not true to color. I would recommend to look for a "warm" white if you are doing the white light thing...or LEDs with multi facet covers of some sort of otherwise you'll get the 'spotlight' effect when looking at them.

How much detergent to use at the Laundromat?

Plus this is an older Speed Queen - fills up to 1/2 the door - so fun to watch as well...nice suds even with HE detergent. :)

How much detergent to use at the Laundromat?

I made the mistake one time of using one of those Tide booster pack things...horrible...thought I was going to lock up the machine. Suds EVERYWHERE!

How much detergent to use at the Laundromat?

Yes, FL Speed Queen. I usually use 3x as much (since there are 4 wash basket icons - indicating that it will hand 4x the amount of a standard washer)...and didn't have any issues, but wanted to pick everyone's brain to see what others would do.

    Huebsch ZFN50R Arrived Today!!!!

Congrats...I always liked the rear controls--what a great way to replace a TL and keep the existing dryer - instead of "forcing" a dryer upgrade as well. I love me some Speed Queen/Huebsch.

How much detergent to use at the Laundromat?

Yes most are dump n go. :(. Drives me nuts. No instructions on the machine for detergent amount (Wascomats or Speed Queens).

Watching the Washer when you were Young (and now, too!)

My Speed Queen was doing the "Wet rag fling" just the other day! Fun with an old school agitator for sure!

How much detergent to use at the Laundromat?

I'm washing a "king size" comforter in a 50 lb machine. How much to use? 2x, 3x, 4x as much? Same for the softener? Thanks for the advice in advance.

Watching the Washer when you were Young (and now, too!)

I was fall cleaning the other day and as I was passing by the washer, I noticed that the step stool just happened to be positioned in front of the washer much like it was in the late 70s/early 80s at my childhood house. I would find something, anything to stand on to watch the magical blue...

at the risk of creating too many threads...

All those Jetson buttons! Oh, the dreams of our ancestors...love stuff like that...and Honeywell and NuTone seemed to rule that kinda stuff then.

    Which TL Speed Queen

Nelson, search for post "413378" for a picture of the adjustment screw. Some report only turning the screw a small amount - I had to turn my 4-6 complete turns (use a socket for ease of turing) and be CAREFUL...could easily twist it. Of course, unplug the washer and only attempt if you feel...

    Which TL Speed Queen

After paper and some other items kept coming loose, I used WOBBLE WEDGES - they 'lock' into place when you place them on top of each other - hasn't moved since. I think Home Depot and Lowes carry them...

    Which TL Speed Queen

Yep, I added several gallons to be on the safe side. :)

    Is Less More?

I usually wait until I have a "full" load, but never overload the machine - and get superior results. My SQ averages 52¢ per month in electricity, so I could wash more often and smaller loads, but the drying expense of frequent loads keeps me from doing that.

    Which TL Speed Queen

Great choice Nelson! I have two 542's and love both of them...it's always good to get the TOL and have every possible washing option. I love the matching dryer as well. Now, start stockpiling your dirty clothes and have a wash-a-thon when it comes in. :) Oh, and don't forget to put on the...
