These Whirlpool machines appear to be from the late 60's. The "blue" color was an unusual and attractive one that was only around a short time. Whirlpool always made good washers and the absolute BEST dryers around. The only real criticism I would make of them is that the rinse time was too...

    Exploding Whirlpool Washer in MN.

johnrk I am using a Kenmore, LG built washer and dryer. This set had all the features and was the largest capacity built at the time I purchased it. It has been fine in the last 4+ years with no problems.

From my understanding, this Norge front loader was built by Bendix in the late 40's to very early 50's before Norge made their own top load machines. I have never actually seen one of these machines before.

Low Resale Value on Used Speed Queen Washers and Dryers

Used washers and dryers are just that, used washers and dryers. Regardless of the brand there is no real resale value for them. It isn't like a house or car.

    Washing pillow mishap

Washing pillows is another job that front load machines tackle with ease and are far superior doing it. Not so with a top load machine for various reasons.

wft2800 I fully agree with what you stated. It is just that some old fuddy-duddy's who are set in their ways and will have nothing but a top load machine refuse to face the facts that front loaders do a better job using MUCH less water and it takes MUCH less energy to dry them in less time too...

    Exploding Whirlpool Washer in MN.

Maytag85 I know and am very aware of what an older Maytag set will do. That was what I replaced when I got new ones. The Maytag washer used much more water, but took less time to operate. But there is just no comparison to how dry the clothes are when they come out of my front loader now. It...

Yes, this was a sad day for Frigidaire washers and dryers. It was in about 1980 and began the worst bunch of machines that ever had the Frigidaire name on them. The washers were not horrible, just pretty lousy in comparison to the 1-18 machines in capacity and performance. All but the lowest...

    Exploding Whirlpool Washer in MN.

Vintage washing machines are terrific until a part breaks that cannot be replaced. Then, not so much. Of course they do use MUCH more water and usually spin out slower making for excessive drying time expense, but what the hey!

joeypete So did you get the new 2018 model? If it has a straight vane agitator, it sounds like you did. Does the entire tub move back and forth to wash?

Why front loaders are best today What has changed from the old front loaders of the 30's-90's? A great deal. One major thing is that they equally reverse rotation. This keeps things from balling up and tangling too. They have larger and wider drums, so a further drop, which is what does much...

Please explain the 29" dryer thing

As far as I am concerned, the 29" wide Whirlpool dryer is hands down the best dryer ever made then and now. They dry faster and better than any dryer ever made and are the best as far as dependability too with the least amount of servicing required.
