Calling all Poles ( and others..) need an Hard cooked Egg recipe in cream sauce

Maybe you’re looking for Polish Pascha Sauce, or Sos do Swieconego (or święconego), which I think actually translates as Holy Sauce or Blessing Sauce. ...

Outdoor fun with out-of-sight price: Vintage Char-Grill - $5000 (Bayfield)

I wonder if every indoor grill in America is unused. They sound like a great idea, and they were obviously stylish in the ’70s, but who would want to deal with the mess?

SS + cast iron vs non stick

I have a bit of everything, different pieces for different purposes. But for pan frying, cast iron is the only way to go. As others have pointed out, finishing something off with water or milk (for gravy or something like that) always means the next thing you make will stick. The pan gets...

Do you use a deep fryer?

I have bought rendered leaf lard from the Spotted Trotter, which was the source of my complaint about cost!! I’ve asked around for the raw stuff, but no shop I know of can get it. Specialty restaurants and the Spotted Trotter are apparently buying it all up! Another problem is that almost no...

Do you use a deep fryer?

Where do you get good leaf lard? The only sources I know sell rendered lard only, seriously over priced. I’d prefer to render my own.

    Frigidaire Electric Range, Model RS-35

I’d like to offer a thought. Units that have been in storage, even for what seems like a short time, often stink very badly when they are heated up for the first time. They’re burning off dust, I suppose, but it can be really bad. I recently switched out my daily driver, and I had to run the...

    Frigidaire Electric Range, Model RS-35

I love and adore my ’54. I have an RT-38—R means range, and T means 1954. S means 1953. In ’53, Frigidaire had two “chassis” for the 30″, the older 35 model and the newer 38 model. Other people here know more about these than I do.

Do you use a deep fryer?

I like my vintage Sunbeam. I mainly use it for catfish, which really is best deep-fried. I only use it outdoors—fish odors AND fry odors are not happening in the kitchen!!

    "What Cook Are You?"

Apparently, I’m a fancy cook. Based on their description, it’s accurate, but I wouldn’t call it ‘fancy’.

    Board Games

I remember all the games mentioned, also Chinese Checkers. Remember that one? I think Monopoly, Parcheesi, and Chinese Checkers are the board games we played the most—certainly an odd collection. We also played Clue and Battleship and Othello, but I don’t remember those as well. I don’t...

Yellow Frigidaire stove, $225 (Cleveland, OH)

Do you mean Gainesville, GA? That’s more than an hour north of where we live. We are right in the city of Atlanta.

Yellow Frigidaire stove, $225 (Cleveland, OH)

We’ll rotate them in about 6 months. We’re lucky we have basement storage to allow us a few extra units. And by the way, thank you for posting this. We NEVER would have found it otherwise.

Yellow Frigidaire stove, $225 (Cleveland, OH)

And here it is in my kitchen!! The other picture shows the model this one “replaced”, although we’ll switch them out again soon enough. They are both 1954 models, RT-38. This “new” one is in excellent condition. Everything works, which is great. Even the clock works, although it’s a big...

    Betty Crocker's New Cake Mix

Speaking of grandmas that never measure anything... My grandmother made excellent biscuits pretty much as you describe. But she made them almost every day for decades—in other words, thousands of times. I don’t make anything that frequently so I have to check myself with scales and...

    Betty Crocker's New Cake Mix

I can’t exactly explain why I dislike buttering the pans, but it really gets on my nerves. It must be some childhood trauma that I’ve repressed!! I do use butter, though, since the various sprayed products leave a little taste that doesn’t appeal to me.

    Betty Crocker's New Cake Mix

And I weigh everything when I bake. I started doing it 20 years ago, and I never looked back. Scales are so cheap and small now that anyone can use one, and the results speak for themselves. One of the big surprises for me was how easy it became to make biscuits. Those are notorious for...

    Betty Crocker's New Cake Mix

I haven’t made a plain yellow cake in a while, but Eddie, you have inspired me to try the reverse-creaming method again. I have used it before with success, but it’s been a while. I usually make a génoise cake, which I happen to like; it’s great in trifle. I also make pound cake using Flo...

    Nice Items on Craigslist

Seeing this house kind of makes me sad. This same comment appears on aw all the time, but here is comes again. They’re throwing out all kinds of fantastic stuff just to replace it with junk. Why?
