We hardly ever lose power here yet I have a 5000 watt 20 year old Honda on standby because when its out its for days. If you live in an area of the country where you lose power seasonally from hurricanes or tornados it is wise to have at the least a 6500 watt generator and four 5 gallon gas cans...

I never buy store bought name brand bread. Luckily we have several bakeries of all types in this area from Italian to Artisan so I buy local and super fresh.

Im not sure about how old fuels were blended, my knowledge goes as far as regular leaded gas being banned now. In fact I knew a guy that got 10 years for pumping Ethyl ;)

Yesterdays oils and greases left much to be desired compared to todays. My 1960 Mercedes owners manual clearly states " Todays oils are just good enough to protect your engine, proper service ensures long life ". Basically what they were saying was oil isnt the old waxy sludge you used in 1938...

Not all blame is on consumers... Dont forget all companies have profit margins. Its they who are really to blame for cost cutting because of high union labor costs, high insurance costs, high property value costs, some states tax you on machinery as property plus inventory tax, high material...

When I see those stamped steel transmissions and all that cheap plastic Im glad Im still using an antique Maytag with its cast iron spinning weapon of a trans and steel tubs etc.

Im sure with everything under the sun made in China that Maytag could have had the Pitman trans built there exactly the way it was in Iowa for peanuts, as that plus the motor were prob the two most expensive parts. They could have kept the same design with different cabinets etc but with todays...

Pitman trans Maytags....... Are like GE Monitor Tops. The fact so many are still in daily use after many decades is proof of their genius in design. They werent kidding back then with their slogan " The Dependability People ". The automotive equivalent would be the Mercedes 240D or Volvo 240.

As an example..... I've found I can buy a 146 load bottle of Persil Pro Clean on Ebay cheaper than I can locally. It always comes from a Sams in Indiana even though its usually different sellers. Free shipping each time.

Amazon versus Ebay I've bought quite a bit on both. At first Amazon was the better deal with Prime. At least 75% of the time I find Im buying it off Ebay now to save money over Amazon.

Check each push on connector on the timer and make sure its a clean snug fit. If all the connectors are clean and tight I think it may have a burnt set of contacts inside. My A407 did that same thing, 20 seconds after starting its rinse spin the motor would shut off but the pilot light was still...

My 1974 A407 has the 4 decade limited run Pitman trans.
