Maytag Machines After Whirlpool Buyout - What Remained?

Maytag's Commercial Units Some might recall that after the takeover, the control panel for Maytag's commercial units remained the same when the DD internals were installed. I'm referring to the machine with the digital display and the black buttons, although the one with the knobs stuck around...

    Servis becomes reality......

Great Find! That's a nice-looking Servis you have there! I'm really glad you were able to find one after looking for a very long time. I appreciate the design behind these units a lot, and it looks like the one you've found is in great condition too. All the best with owning it!

    Speed Queen in Australia

Speed Queens I have had some encounters with Speed Queen here in New Zealand. Harvey Norman was the only appliance store selling them at the time, and I recall seeing all the different models shuffling in each year. In 2018, the AWNE92SP113TW01 and matching dryer arrived, and they were...

Commercial Washer Recommendations for Developing Country

WCN Dexter or SC30 Speed Queen I have observed a couple of machines with the electromechanical controls and gravity drains you're looking for. Most of the laundromats with equipment like that are usually using the brands Dexter and Speed Queen (both very good). Another machine is the Wascomat...

NEW ROLLERMATIC TO PLAY WITH- and assorted questions on rollermatics for you all!

Pressure Switches on Solid Tubs Hello Peter. First of all, this is a pretty cool find and I hope you have fun using the machine. The design of the pressure switch system is amazing on washers like this, and I can relate since I own a Champion solid tub with a very similar setup. The thing...

    Champion (Parnall) Spin-Washer - Disassembly.

Help! The machine did not do well on the water test. The main seal leaked pretty badly, and I had to remove the base again to pull out the inner tub and inspect it. I've provided a video of the test in this reply. There are no obvious rips or tears in the snubber, leading me to believe that...

    Champion (Parnall) Spin-Washer - Disassembly.

Drive Train finished Yesterday I went underneath the machine and began reassembling the brake system and clutch helix. It took me a few tries to align the clutch helix, but once I got that done I was able to reinstall the brake cone. Then, I got the pulley system lubricated and back together at...

Inner tub enters the outer tub What a tough job this turned out to be! Not only did I find myself reinstalling the agitator tube for hand support, but I also had to get another person to help me guide the tub through the sleeve bearings. The weight of the tub is too much for one person to...

Back in buisness After discussing oils with a few other collectors, I was able to settle on purchasing Penrite Transoil 90 gear oil. It's a non-corrosive GL-1 oil that should perform well in the transmission. The size of the gearcase required me to buy three 1-liter bottles of it. With the...

    Need advice on Transmission Oil

Oil update Good news! I was able to acquire three bottles of the Penrite Transoil 90 that we discussed. That should be plenty of oil to refill the transmission and finish rebuilding it. I have gone ahead and fitted the gearcase back onto the inner tub, and once it's back in the machine, I'll be...

    Need advice on Transmission Oil

Regarding Millers I checked, and they do not ship Millers oils to New Zealand unfortunately. I'm pretty sure that the Transoil 90 will work for my gear case. Feel free to double-check while I wait for it to get restocked. https://penriteoil.com.au/products/transoil-sae-90

    Need advice on Transmission Oil

Here is what Repco says about the Transoil 90: "Transoil 90 is premium Non EP, API GL-1 rated SAE 90 gear oil designed specifically for use in Veteran, Vintage and Edwardian gearbox, Transaxles and selected spur and bevel type rear axles. It does not contain any aggressive load carrying...

    Need advice on Transmission Oil

My trip to Supercheap Auto I spent almost an hour talking with the staff at Supercheap Auto who additionally called Penrite and Repco to try and help me. Long story short, I still left the shop empty-handed (I mentioned previously that I do not have the NAPA brand here in New Zealand). Despite...

    Need advice on Transmission Oil

It's tough for me because I live overseas and do not have most of the brands you guys are familiar with. Still, I am very pleased with everyone's suggestions, so I will take them down to my local Repco or Supercheap Auto for them to look at. They might have something that matches the...

    Need advice on Transmission Oil

Some may be aware of my attempts to find an oil for my vintage Champion (Parnall) washer on thread# 93978. In the service manual, the manufacturers recommended Shell Trochus, Shell J50, or Carnea 69 oils, all of which are no longer made. I have searched high and low for a different...

    Champion (Parnall) Spin-Washer - Disassembly.

Well, I contacted Penrite via email this morning. They just wrote back saying they have no equivalent to the products I mentioned. They suggested that I contact Shell to determine if their products are suitable for my requirements. I might do that later today. If Shell doesn't have an...

    Champion (Parnall) Spin-Washer - Disassembly.

Oil confusions I went to Supercheap Auto and asked an expert there about a modern alternative to Shell Trochus, Shell J50, or Carnea 69. However, after looking, we never found a suitable replacement for any of them. We did find a cross-referencing chart, but it did not mention any of the oils...

    Champion (Parnall) Spin-Washer - Disassembly.

Gear Oil I did a Google search for "Shell Trochus Oil" as well as the alternatives "Shell J50" and "Carnea 69", but I did not find any relevant results. I believe that any brand of gear oil will work for the transmission, but I just need to find out what weight it requires.
