Replaced Belt John, I replaced the belt and it seems to be working fine. The Mod # is WED4815EW1, and the serial # is MX3832721. The fraying was on the outside edge of the belt, facing the back of the dryer. I couldn't see anything obvious that might have caused the fraying. Have gone through...

No, haven't heard any other noises; no squealing etc. The site doesn't allow new members to post more than once per half hour, so am not answering as quickly as i'd like. Guess i'll buy a new pulley...Live in Georgia so very humid and hot...don't really use the dryer more than once a week or so...

will need to replace the rubber belt...still works but is weakened. The rubber is very dry and somewhat fragile. Wondering if the rubber is weakening from age or if there may be other issues.

found the source of the problem Took the top of the dryer off and found that some rubber was coming apart on the rubber that goes around the center of the drum....Took some pictures to illustrate. I cut off the loose rubber and the sound stopped.

I have a 4 year old Whirlpool basic dryer that started making a rhythmic clicking sound when running. The sound happens about every 2 seconds and seems to have two parts. The dryer seems to work fine other than this sound. Any help appreciated.
