Putting dish soap in a washing machine

Dish soap on grease stains I find it works better than any proprietary pre-treater on grease stains, however I haven't tried putting it in the machine, I dab a bit directly onto the stain, rub it in, leave it a couple of minutes then wash as normal. Matt

Improving Top Loader Washer Performance Via Intermediate Soaks

I have long thought This would be a great idea. I would say to match front loader profile wash performance, there would need to be a cool to warm pre-wash/soak to remove the majority of the dirt and to prevent the setting of biological stains, then a drain and spin, followed by a hot as...

    Hot Wash Cold Rinse Cycle?

My take Hot wash / Warm rinse = Redundant Warm Wash / Warm Rinse = Redundant Hot Wash / Cold Rinse = Whites, Towels, Bed linens, underwear & Kitchen linens/cleaning cloths etc Warm Wash / Cold Rinse = Everyday clothes, Delicates, Wool/Silk, Outerwear Cold Wash / Cold Rinse = Maybe in rare...

    A Few New Detergents

Very nice I think the Omo was sold here as "Persil Hygiene" I'm not sure if it's still available. We go to Turkey every year, I always bring back some detergents, Omo active fresh is my favourite, the scent is lovely and the cleaning power is as good as any of the best detergents I have used...

    The Great Washing Machine Scam

Water levels I know this has been discussed here and nauseum, but generally in a front loader, the lower the water level in the wash, the better the results. All you really need is enough to saturate the clothes. Many years ago, some European front loaders would fill to a level which was up...

And Now For Something Completely Different

Certainly a Hotpoint If the specs are the same as the UK sold models, the spinner will be 3100rpm

    IFA 2024

Very interesting I am also skeptical of the lack of full drum paddles in the W2, but until I see one in action I will reserve judgement.

Here we go again. Are we using too much detergent?

Detergent dosage I have experimented with different dosages but have always found the recommended dosages on the pack are necessary. We have fairly soft water here, 3.4dh, but I still find with any products I need to use the dosage for medium water to get best results. Is blood a difficult...

Why Did Older Dishwasher Have Such Enormous Motors?

As far as I'm aware There is no soil sensor, it's a pretty entry level model from approx the mid 00's. 13L for a normal wash, 17L with a pre-rinse, according to Google that's 3.4 US Gallons and 4.5 US gallons respectively, a bit high for current European standards but as I say it is an entry...

Why Did Older Dishwasher Have Such Enormous Motors?

From my (admittedly vague) understanding of the filter When the machine is washing or rinsing the water is drawn across the filter and any food particles are trapped in the filter and under the high temperature, mechanically softened water and strong alkaline detergent being dragged across it...

Why Did Older Dishwasher Have Such Enormous Motors?

Yes it's a Miele G 645 SC, not sure of the exact age as I bought it 2nd hand. I have attached a picture, I would show you inside but it's currently half full of dirty dishes so not a particularly pleasant sight 😅 According to the specs it uses 13L of water per cycle, 17L on a cycle with a...

Why Did Older Dishwasher Have Such Enormous Motors?

Pardon the intrusion.. But to answer your questions based on my modern, energy and water efficient Miele without a macerator; "1) being able to load a used salad bowl and cooked on egg in a stainless pan and not have any of the food bits be at the bottom of the machine at the end of the cycle...

    Hoovermatic versus Supermatic...

A difficult question to answer... So I'll cut to the chase, I'd say Servis had the best wash action, Hotpoint had the best spin and auto rinse and Hoover were the best for speed. Hotpoint and Hoover also had the benefit of thermostatically controlled heating, which Servis lacked. Hoover were...

    Can Our British Friends Help?

To be quite honest Probably about 99% of British households today use nothing but tea bags. Most either do not own a tea pot at all or never use it. Most people brew their tea by steeping the tea bag in the mug and keep their tea bags in a plastic, metal or china jar (That is when they are...

Companies that you stick to/have never cared about/stopped using them

Good question Companies that I have never cared for; Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Nero (all those pretencious coffee places) McDonalds, Burger King, KFC...basically all fast food outlets. Tesco and Asda. Companies that I have stopped buying from; Amazon, for their flagrant abuse of their...

How long does your dishwasher take?

My 12 year old Hotpoint DWF31 Takes 90s mins to complete a normal wash. Btw Robliverpool the dishwasher you have pictured at the top of the thread is at least 14 years old, as the model I have replaced this in late 2000/2001. It could be up to 17 years old as they were introduced around 1997...

    Is it indeed, Splendide?

Just looked on their website They are old Indesit company made models. Reliability and performance of these machines is debatable. Not sure what they sell for over there, but these would retail for around £2-300 ($3-500). Matt

    my new hoover spinarinse

Going by the serial and colourscheme August 1989 They were sold along with the Hoovermatics and single tub washers until 1993. I thought the spin speed was 2100, or is that just the hoovermatics? Matt

    Philips Top Twin De Luxe

Very nice! Lovely to see some pictures of this machine. I found a photo some years ago of my Grandma in her kitchen, the style of top twin shown in the adverts above is visible in the backgroud, nice to know my Gran had one of these beautiful beasts! She even had an equally fabulous 'do' as...
