My Whirlpool Quiet Partner 980 was running when all of a sudden a puff of black smoke came out of the top right side of the door. I'm assuming an electronic control burned out. I'd like to drain the water out of the machine, but the controls are dead. Can this be done manually? Thanks!

Update Thanks again for the info regarding parts - it came in handy. I called the repair service and described the problem. I was advised that they will probably not be able to locate parts for this machine. I said I'd be happy to pay for a diagnosis anyway, and if I can track down the part...

Thank you for your replies. I doubt there's any broken glass involved - he never breaks things. They make jokes about people who load their dishwashers as carefully as he does. So if it was the motor bearings seizing up, which they'd have every right to do after 30+ years, I'd need a new motor...
