WANTED: 1959 Frigidaire Refrigerator for Henry Ford Museum

No, they want a Frigidaire refrigerator because that is what the family had in their kitchen. As mentioned upthread, they are having the daughter consult on the exhibit to get it right.

    1972 Whirlpool TV Commercials - 16mm Film

intrigued that WP's fetish for un-customized bottom racks (bed of nails all over) got this early start and was a feature to be touted---they have continued 50 years later!

Look who's heading back to the kitchen

intrigued--apparently Electrolux/Frigidaire sources their 24" wall ovens from their plant in Australia...

    Interesting experience w/new Bosch D/W

Petek: it's already in so I can't see. So to see the unit, there is -no- blanket of shoddy-sheet insulation; all that is there are the adhesive asphaltic panels. It is labeled at 48 dBa and it sounds like that----very slightly quieter than the old one. The bottom rack from the old unit slid...

    Interesting experience w/new Bosch D/W

I've mentioned in bits and pieces our dishwasher saga---we had a 13 year old Bosch 100 series dishwasher which bit the dust earlier in the summer. It was white on white, and was the low-end Ascenta (plastic bottom). Have been entirely happy with it and it appeared to succumb to either a power...

you still see a very few of this vintage KA out in the wild....particularly in our inner-ring suburban area

Now they went and changed Ivory soap

There are some interesting soap ads in the Duke University advertising archive---interesting line extensions for things like Camay, the ads were used in their test markets (with a telltale "Available in Louisville and surrounding areas" or some-such phrasing).

    Vintage Food Advertisements: Part Twenty-four

That Sweetose was a wartime product---1947 was right at the end of sugar rationing and this looks like one way to try to keep some relevance. Recently scanned Better Homes and Gardens from about 1944 through 1947 (times were tough even after the war) and found that Staley (as opposed to...

Maybe they meant blower in both refrigerator and freezer?

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Thirty-one

Looks like they started moving out of TV/Radio in 1956 in favor of their defense business (making sonobuoys)

    Toaster Oven recommendations?

That one pictured got me through college, grad school, ....until it shorted out a couple years ago itself. Made it to 43 years. The fayke woode graine peeled in exactly that same corner, even!

Ward SIgnature version of electric Tappan Fabulous 400

Very intriguing. Wonder if the burner arrangement changed from the Tappan design?

That was Canada Kraft...note the different packaging and labeling on the cheddar product

HOW IN HELL CAN I CLEAN A MAYTAG FILTER OUT?

Had to clean my grandmother's out---she used cheap bucket soda-ash detergent and it limed up terribly, but a vinegar soak and brushdown from both directions together with a banging on the edge of the sink got it right

    Who still makes tubes? (electronics)

I have a stupid question---what exactly do tubes...do? I am jusssst old enough to remember tubes and tube testers (born late 1963), but they were decidedly old-fashioned when I recall it and solid-state was definitely what was promoted and what I grew up with. Are they just big, glass bulbs that...

Wandered through Menard's---interesting private label selection

Interesting, as this was in Oregon, OH and a big, nice store. Actually gave The Andersons vibes (RIP). Perhaps I was too hard on them--my only other experience has been up at their Auburn Hills, MI store which is in a shopping area I absolutely loathe.

Wandered through Menard's---interesting private label selection

Had a wander through Menard's Tuesday (we don't have them convenient in Detroit) and was intrigued to see their appliance selection (last time I was in one 10 years ago don't think they had appliances). They seemed to have Kitchenaid as their best line, with also a full selection of Whirlpool...

Best US DW available at the moment

To close up---the Bosch I saw for $375 seemed to have some shipping damage (the back of the tub (stainless) would oilcan against the plastic base). The other one interesting was an Asko for $575 but was stainless steel door---end of the story is we ended up just getting another 100 series new...

Best US DW available at the moment

Can you tell me more about replacing the door? Honestly that's the only thing keeping me from grabbing that 2022 Ascenta at the scratch/dent place...our work triangle in the kitchen is small, the cabinets and stove are white/white glass and I fear that a black d/w panel will just darken...
