    Cleaning a Crock Pot

Cloudy lid I have a Rival Crock Pot as well. For the lid, I simply replaced it with a Pyrex clear glass lid. They all used to come with these and they can be put in the dishwasher withuut a problem.

    Philco washer in NC

1966 Philco washer There are several videos on Youtube of this washer (in coppertone) washing clothes. The one showing "washing sheets" gives you a close up of the controls.

Corelle recommends using their pre-2005 dishes as “decorative pieces” due to lead

Chill out I have many pieces of vintage Pyrex bowls, casseroles, refridgerator dishes, etc. I do use them occasionally. Keep in mind that the "lead paint" in on the outside of the various pieces with the interior plain white. The food never touches the outside of the pieces so where's the...

Vintage Maytag Dryer with tiny door

Tiny door I have this same model Maytag dryer as well as a DE806. Both have same size door. I guess it's "tiny" by today's standards, but Maytag dryers had this door for a long time. David

    Maytag A806 Draining During Fill

Washer draining I had the same problem in the past. The drain hose was extremely tight in the drain pipe with no air space around it. We installed what I believe was called a "siphon break" in the drain hose which solved the problem permanently. David

    Why no fabric softener????

fabric softener I haven't ever seen problems with FS and my towels. My towels are dark blue and get washed with other dark items like jeans, shirts, socks, etc. I use warm water, a good detergent, and ammonia. I assume that this removes the previous dose of FS along with dirt and stains. I...

    Garbage disposals

Kenmore dsposer I have always used ISE disposers in the past and never had any problems. I have owned my current home for 35 years and had a disposer (ISE I think) that was causing me a lot of problems. I called a plumber who looked at the unit and informed me that it was missing the main...

A211 washer: Anyone know of a mod to add a second rinse cycle?

2nd rinse On a Maytag, use the Permanent Press cycle which gives a cool down rinse before the regular deep rinse.

    Home solar power system

Home Solar I live in Massachusetts and have a system that sounds a little different than the others discussed here. It may not be applicable in your state, but if you're considering solar it might be wise to do some research. In Massachusetts, we have something called net metering. The panels...

    Need Help! Panel Dishwasher deepness

DW depth This may not be the answer to your problem. I had a new Maytag dishwasher installed recently that stuck out like yours. Turns out that the plumber had the drain hose exiting behind the machine before going into the adjacent cabinet. When the drain hose was moved to come out from the...

this is one of those days where in 2021 i wish my mom and i had a filter flo washer dryer set

Fabric softener and pods Maybe you can supply a link to the articles you've read. I've never heard that liquid fabric softener can damage a washer especially since so many machines come with a softener dispenser. Maybe if you only use cold water the softener can build up and cause issues with...

this is one of those days where in 2021 i wish my mom and i had a filter flo washer dryer set

Filter flo and cat hair I have read here numerous times that the filter flo is the best, if not only, machine that can filter pet hair. As the proud owner of both several cats over the years and a Maytag 806, I can assure you that that is not the case. I have washed slipcovers where the cat...

    Bath Soaps & Cleaning

Scrubbing Bubbles I too use Scrubbing Bubbles and find it works really well. I spray it on all the tiles and the tub and let it stay there for about a half hour. Then I put Pine Sol and ammonia in a bucket with very warm water and wipe everything down with an old hand towel. All the scum...

    Fully-Optioned Rim Flow

Rim Flow I had a rim flow for a few years. The spray rinse on these were almost useless since very little of it actually hit the clothes. The bulk of the water hit the rim to clean it and was spun into the outer tub.

    Maytag Dryer

I've never seen a Maytag with this console before. Was it a builders special? It reminds me of some of the coin-op washers I've seen in laundry mats. What is above the dial? Is it a pilot light or a push to start button? A pilot light seems unlikely in such a BOL model. David

    BD Kenmore

Normal cycle name I'm confused. Both the washer and dryer above show "Cotton/Sturdy" instead of "Normal".

    GE Electric range

Micro shelf These were not a GE accessory. I ordered mine from a catalog (Spiegel?). After a short while I realized I could no longer lift my cooktop to clean under the burners because of the way it stood on the cooktop. I also did get greasy underneath as shown in the photo. I took it...

    Sears Timed Only Dryer

HOH drying temps I purchased a 1958 Highlander 67C HOH dryer in 2013 - see post# 663122. In Reply #20, Coldspot66 answered me that on Regular the temp was about 135 and on Wash and Wear the temp was about 160. From my experience, the dryer was hotter and the drying times shorter if I used...

    Sears Timed Only Dryer

Forgot I also remember that Sears had that four cycle timed only dryer mentioned above where the air fluff cycle (30 minutes?) was a continuation of the Permanent Press cycle. They advertised this dryer as having "Wrinkle Guard".

    Sears Timed Only Dryer

Timed only dryer Sears sold 29" versions of this dryer since the 1960's. I remember seeing them in Sears every time I went in. There were probably the first dryer someone bought especially if they were on a budget. These usually were matched to one of their BOL washers including the direct...
