I am asking for your help....

Is Oxy Gone yet? I don't even read this forum let alone post here anymore. There are just a handful of posters that have managed to change the whole complexion of the place. I only clicked on this forum by accident today and saw a post from Robert and thought it might relate to the site <br...

70's style Maytag washer and dryer-- well-kept!!

I was going to bid I had been conversing with the owners of these units and I was going to place a bid. I figure I could have them for spare parts and/or back-ups or even take my time and paint them turquoise or something. They are an hour away from me. But I see someone bid on them now and as...

The long journey starts with a single step

A real commodian Goatfarmer, thanks for the clarification and expert advice. I'll see what I can do to rig something up. The dryer will shut off on it's own now, but it takes a loooooong time. Rigging up a ground is definitely worth the effort if it solves that issue. Pete, very funny...

Grounding When I replaced the switch, I might have pulled the wire from the socket off. Those wires were short. Or after I hooked the wires up to the switch, one of the wires might have come off the switch as I was securing the switch back to the door. I'll check this out this weekend...

Well I'll be darned The agitator is spinning just fine now and that "struggling" sound has vanished. We have agitation. Maybe it was just because it was cold. It took a while to get that thing hooked up, cutting splicing, stuff, and I figured it probably had warmed up by then, but maybe not...

    New dryers, hehe

Todd I think my jaw was on the floor when I saw all those washers. And then there was another floor. And another. I was stunned. I second the notice that Todd's a really great guy. Congrats on the new dryers Sharples. Versa

Progress I got the new switch in. It wasn't TOO bad of a job. I only ended up with one extra piece when I put everything back together. I plugged it in and the light didn't come on. I figured it was all for naught. I started the dryer up and opened the door and the drum stopped. So, at least...

I have the switch Only a few blocks away from where I work is a place that has the words "Appliance Part" outside. I always wondered what was inside the place. I stopped in at lunch time and said I needed a door switch for a Maytag 806 Dryer and they sold me one. So I have a new switch right...

For Sharples And here's a pic of the Maytag dryer. I came so close to getting a match for this a few times. So close. You can kind of get a glimpse of my pink Coldspot refrigerator behind the Maytag. I have a turquoise Kelvinator in my Kitchen. I gound good homes for the two GEs.

For Sharples I told a few people how I ran into you and it goes beyond cooincidence and happenstance. Just amazing, really. I'll post a pic of the versatronic and the maytag. I probably shouldn't put any pictures of friges in this forum. I forget what my profile says but I now only have two...

Thank you This is very helpful information. Very helpful. I don't have any manuals. Nothing. So I just assumed that you could shut the machine off by pushing in the dial. It's very possible when the dryer was shutting off earlier that it was on the Damp Dry cycle but that I had it on another...

Maybe an issue?? As for the washer, I gave it a test drive and I'm not sure if there's an issue or not. I feel like there is, but I could be mistaken. When the agitator kick on, it sounded funny to me, like it was stuggling. But maybe since I've heard a direct drive agitator for so long I don't...

A few issues So now I'm going to have to learn how to maintain and fix these things. So if any of you Maytag experts out there can give me a hand now and then with advice so that I can slowly figure these contraptions out and be able to maintain them, I'd appreciate it. So far, I have found...

The long journey starts with a single step

I've lamented many times that I was destined to never own a vintage washer. Every time I was close to swinging some deal the seller would back out or I'd lose the auction or whatever. I never was able to find a match to my old Maytag dryer or my Versatronic dryer. Well, thanks to the very kind...

    Two Machines Up for Grabs

The Lady If nobody else can get the Kenmore, I can get it the week after next weather permitting. I emailed about the Kenmore but didn't get a response. I'd be willing to drive to Conneticut for it. Number 1 on my wish list and the correct color. It would be worth the drive.

Anyone Else Into Pop Vocal Music (non-rock) of the '40s & '50s?

Ymama I'm a big Yma Sumac fan. That is some seriously surreal and trippy stuff and the recording quality on her CDs is amazing. I guess Yma sort of fits in with my love of "bachelor pad" music.
