    My new Miele laundry pair

Are those metal doors or only metal-looking plastic?

Out with the old Gorenje, in with the new Gorenje!

Gorenje is Chinese now, it has recently been acquired by the "quality manufacturer" Hisense. Expect quality to plummet as a result, though in the near future it'll probably not change that much. I guess your new machine will be the last generation of the still decent ones.

Out with the old, in with the new, new washer and dryer

I think the country of manufacture is printed on a label on the back of the machines.

Out with the old, in with the new, new washer and dryer

Nice machines. In which countries were they manufactured?

A simple weight reduction tactic - or fixing what ain't broke?

Yet another example of eco-hysteria leading to quality reduction.

    Some pics

That's what I've always assumed as well, but I think the German-made ones have "Made in Germany" printed explicitly on the control panel fascia, yet I couldn't see this on your machine. Does it say "Made in Germany" on the back?

    Is this a German-made machine?

    New Electrolux Laundry

From the video, it looks like this Electrolux washer does not have a sealed tub, but a split one (see from 0:25 to 0:30 and also 0:39 to 0:42). Does this suggest that the split tub is making a comeback on some Electrolux machines now? (Or is that just what Electrolux wants us to believe? ;))

New To Me AEG Lavamat and Lavatherm

And nowadays AEG is just a brand name put on Electrolux washing machines that have been subjected to so much cost-cutting that it's not even possible to change the bearings anymore...

    Grundig washing machine April 2013???

Grundig went bankrupt in 2003, and Koç/Arçelik (the Turks who make Beko) ended up buying the remains. So Grundig is no longer German, but Turkish. Don't expect that to be highlighted as a sales argument any time soon, but for informed buyers it's nice to know...

    Siemens wash&dry VarioPerfect WD14H540

A mid-to-high-end washing machine, from a German brand, sold in Europe, but made in China?! I would have thought that if Chinese-made machines were sold in the European market, that they would only be very low-end ones, but apparently not...

    Electrolux/Zanussi Sealed/unsealed tubs

@bertrum: Seems you're right, I wasn't aware that Electrolux had changed the site. I suppose it's still possible to check whether the tub is sold in one or two parts, but it's a lot more difficult than just a quick look at an exploded parts diagram. I wonder whether there's an element of damage...

    Electrolux/Zanussi Sealed/unsealed tubs

I'd guess that the most plausible explanation is that the ZWH7122J belongs to the previous generation of Electrolux washers, whereas the other machines you mentioned (i.e. the AEG Protex ones) belong to the new generation of Electrolux washers. From my experience there's one obvious visual sign...

500,000 homes in dishwasher fire risk alert

So how does an owner of a Bosch dishwasher (such as myself) know whether a dishwasher may be affected by this potential problem?

    My New Washer

Do these machines have sealed outer tubs?
  16. S

My new AEG Protex Washer and Dryer

The AEG Protex range sure looks great. Only problem is that these washers have sealed outer tubs, something one wouldn't normally expect from TOL washers.

    Slower heating = lower consumption?

Perhaps it requires more energy to heat up the water quickly *and maintain the heated temperature* for the duration of the wash, than to allow the water to reach the desired temperature *during* the wash.

What Do We Think Of Asko

The end of Swedish-made Asko machines is near - production will be moved to Slovenia next year. As we all know, Asko is owned by Gorenje, who is based in Slovenia, where labour is cheaper than in Sweden. Let's just hope this is not the beginning of the end of Asko...

    Heat Pump Dryers....

Also remember, time is money. I'm not sure whether there's actually a difference (some other people here might have the answer to that), but if, say, the heat pump dryer is faster but more expensive, it might still be worth it if there's time to be saved. If, on the other hand, the condenser...

    Zanussi ZWH7122J

From what I can see by looking up your washers on Zanussi and Electrolux websites, it seems that the ZWH7122J is based on the previous generation Electrolux washers, whereas the ZWG7160P is based on the new generation washers (with sealed tubs and "new & improved" cost cutting). The tell-tale...
