1994 Amana washer - is this basically a Speed Queen?

Amana I am sure I will get hell for this. lol. But I did have an Amana washer and dryer in late 90's/very early 2000's. I had this washer for 5 years and it never missed a beat. The capacity was huge for the time, and the agitation was very much like a Maytag/Speed Queen, to me. I never...

Best USA Detergent for HI-TEMP Washing

Tide with Bleach and Cheer are my daily drivers. Tide HE is a good performer at high temps, as well. I have a 220v Miele, and mechanically softened water. All of these I have used in boil washes with no issues. However, I have to dose carefully. I have over sudsed before, but I have my...

Cleaning question: How do you remove a rancid oil smell?

Polyesters tend to hold color just fine in hotter washes. It will be harder to get the smell out of the polyester than the cotton. Synthetic fibers tend to hold on to odors worse than natural fibers, im my experiences. Water at 120 degrees will most certainly not harm polyester, unless it...

Cleaning question: How do you remove a rancid oil smell?

You definitely need hot water to shift the oil from the fabrics. The cotton can take up to boiling. The poly I would not take above 140. I work in a kitchen, with tons of grease and oil. I find that a 140 degree wash, with plenty of Tide with Bleach will take out oil stains on even dark...

Yay! I am glad that Big Bertha will live on....for a while, at least. :)

A Miele classic to stuff my stocking!

I use powdered Tide with Bleach in boil washes all the time, and I have mechanically softened water, too. You have to watch your dosing carefully. I use 2 TBS for a normally soiled, packed drum. Persil or Ariel are great, if you have some around.

*Request* Service Manual For Miele w1065/w1070/w770

Laundress.... Do you have any Miele dealers near you? You might want to try what I did, and call the dealer, and specifically ask if they have any closed out Miele washers in warehouse somewhere. That is how I got my 1966...for half the retail price. I only had one dealer in my town, and...

    Tide Pods

My 2 cents..... I tried these for a period of a few weeks on every wash load I did. Overall, I was not really impressed. First of all, they are expensive as all hell. They cost 4 times what I pay per load for a box of Tide with Bleach. Stain removal was only marginal, I find the scents...

Is There a FL Washer Available in the U. S. That Heats Wash Water to 206 F?

I have a Miele 1966, and I love it! IMHO, nothing can clean like a Euro front loader.

    Line Drying, I Give Up..

I will never give up line drying. I do so year round. I might use the dryer once or twice a year when the weather does not cooperate. I, personally, feel there are A LOT of advantages to NOT use the dryer. I do, however, tumble all clothing and towels in the dryer on "Air Fluff" for 10-15...

GE New style racks (for power tower)

My best friend and his partner have a newer BOL DW in their apartment. The racking is identical to the picture, and it is terrible. Both the top and the bottom rack are really difficult to load to capacity. Wide plates do not fit, or have to be tilted oddly. Forget piggy backing bowls...

Why did they only wash on Mondays????

FWIW I once heard that Mondays were wash days because all of your best linens and clothing were worn on Sunday. Washing on Monday, there was less of a chance of stains setting into your best table clothes, etc. I have even read once that laundry was gathered and soaked on Saturday nights...

    Artificial Water Softner Units

I find that hard water helps with rinsing. Soft water is best for washing, and hard water is best for rinsing. Others may disagree. I do have a whole house softener and know that it takes extra rinsing and careful detergent dosing. I can over ride my softening system so no treated water is...

    Artificial Water Softner Units

I am in agreement with Laundress. I do happen to have a water softener and a Euro Miele as my daily driver. I can tell you from personal experience that soft water makes it harder for detergent to rinse out of clothes. If I am not careful with dosing, I will have to run extra rinses. I...

Easy/safe way to brighten fabric that picked up colors from other wash items?

From my experience... Try soaking it in pretty warm water and Biz (or something of the sort). Do it in a bucket, it needs to be pretty concentrated. Then re-wash, as usual, with Tide with Bleach or with an Oxy type bleach. Try the sun too. Turn it wrong side out, and put it in the sun. It...
