question on vintage inglis whirlpool washers?

the '58 Inglis I grew up with (it died in 1975) was 1 cycle & 2 wash temps, hot or warm. No water level control, but you could move the timer ahead and around the 10 minute mark it would start agitating at whatever level the water happened to be at.

    I'll miss the Inglis sign...

I can actually remember when the Inglis factory was underneath it, long before the condo's took over, but still loved seeing the sign while sitting in traffic on the Gardiner... http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/08/04/torontos_inspiring_inglis_sign_dismantled_after_nearly_40_years.html

Nellie's Laundry Soda and Dishwasher Detergent

that's good to hear, thanks. I've seen Nellie's in a lot of stores here - not in the chains, usually the independents. No tins though, what I've seen on the shelves is just the bags. Will give it a try...

Beatty 1939 Royal Visit Wringer Washer

That is so cool! Never would have thought there'd be a royal visit washer. I have a bunch of royal visit '39 stuff that was my grandmothers - a cork coaster, a tea tin (of course), obligatory tea cup, a program from the concert put on and a bunch of pictures when they were in Edmonton. I...

Well here is a neat and rare range!

That's cool - haven't seen one in years. Ours was almost exactly the same and we had it until I was about 8. The "burning" part was always called the garbage burner and it really belted out the heat. My parents got rid of it when we actually got a real live furnace and didn't need the extra...

14 Car & Truck Models To Be Discontinued

I'm very sad to see the Ranger go - I'm on my second. Had a '94 then bought an '08 new. Never had trouble with either of them. I was looking at getting an '11 a couple of months ago and the salesman told me this was the last year. He said the same thing, the F-100 will be the replacement.

    Apt sized DWs?

yikes Danby avoid Danby - noisy, do a terrible job and the shortest cycle takes well over an hour. The pluses are it uses about a tablespoon of water and when the parts break, they're really cheap to replace. A new wash arm was $3.00.

    McClary - Easy ringer washer

McClary - Easy ..actually dates from the late '50's. We had a 1962 McClary-Easy stove for most of my childhood. Had a very cool chrome script after the M-E logo, "proudly Canadian" and the patented senso-therm burner that blew a fuse if a pot boiled over..... My mother hated that stove with...

Question For Stain Experts - Can You Get Gloss Paint Off Fabric?

if they're washable, try soaking in TSP (tri-sodium phosphate). Mix a strong, hot solution and soak for at least a day. TSP will eventually lift paint off anything, but it takes time and patience - I use it in restoration of painted over doorknobs or heat vents, etc. Fabric's more difficult...

When did it just become Simpsons, please? Simpsons was an eastern Canadian chain - I don't know how far west they came but I remember the Montreal and Toronto stores and I think they closed in the late '80's or early '90's. When I was growing up on the west coast in Victoria, Simpson-Sears...

    About Coal Furnaces and Boilers

My grandparents had exactly the same system as Tomturbomatics - as a kid I was fascinated by the whole process, especially when the furnace door was opened to show the hot red glow of the coal. The dampers were controlled by two chains that came up through the floor and hooked onto these very...
