Hello everyone! I’ve been having some troubles with my 1986 Kenmore 70 Series Belt Drive washer. recently, I purchased a new pump in order to convert it to have the waterfall style lint filter. However, when I tried installing the new pump, the bolt holes on the pump would not line up with the holes on the transmission. Are the three port pumps not compatible with machines that originally came with two port pumps, or is the pump just not manufactured correctly? If it’s the pump being designed bad, Is there a way to get around this, or would I need to order a new three port pump? Also, I’ve noticed the last couple times i’ve used it, it’s made a strange noise when ramping up to spin, as well as very briefly when stopping. It only happens then, and never when the machine is up to full speed, and only seems to be when it’s first starting to spin, and when it’s just about stopped, so at very low RPMs. the noise sounds like a slight whine, very similar to a zipper being zipped up, but in a higher pitch’s If it is needed, I can upload and add a link to a video of the noise. Any help would be appreciated!

^^ As he said.  The transmissions don't change on the various filtering methods.

Is the flapper valve arm maybe positioned wrong on your installation?  Try flipping it the other way.

Pump Installation

I have everything positioned how it’s supposed to be, and everything else lined up where it’s supposed to be. I replaced the pump once before after the original one had cracked, and the replacement pump fit just fine. Because of this i’m thinking that this pump was not manufactured correctly, since I can get one bolt hole to line up, and the other one is off by about half an inch, give or take maybe an eighth of an inch. At the moment i’m more concerned about the noise, as I can always order a new pump if need be.
