1-18 Dryer

Hi guys its me again

So I took apart the Frigidaire dryer to see what the metal sounds are, Well, its not the best news, (PICS)
the drum is missing part of its Lip where the roller would glide on, and the metal back where the airflow comes from is also missing some of the metal from the grinding of the roller..

Does anyone know if I can fix these or have any spare parts for one of these ??

Noisy FD 1-18 Dryer

Wow, you were not kidding about the noise, I was saying these dryers are all a little noisy, LOL

 

I often find it hard to advise people about problems on line, at least without a video and sound track, often what someone complains about is minor and then you have machines like this that are gridding themselves apart.

 

I would replace the rear of the drum and maybe the drum, again I can not see how badly worn the drum is and the rear rollers [ maybe all of them ] the rear felt seal, belt if it has cracks in it etc.

 

You may need a donor dryer.

1-18 washers tended to be, it seems that the dryers had more than their share of problems...hope you can find the parts you need.

Frigidaire 1-18 dryers from what I heard can make a ruckus as they age and can squeal at times. Only used a 1-18 dryer once and it dried fairly well but took longer since I used the delicate temperature setting since most of my t shirts have vinyl decals on them and that’s all the experience I have with 1-18 dryers.

I recently rebuilt a 1-18 dryer. New seals, rollers, idler pulley, belt, heater, thermostat, lintscreen, the works. After all that it still sounded loud and ran ruff. It has a tinny feel to the whole thing, but dries well and the auto dry is right on- no over dry or under dry.

That part looks to be from the late 50's & 60's machine, the front drum ring so won't help much with the 1-18.

Hi Chris,

Sorry unpacking is taking longer than expected. The people we hired to load the truck were horrible. So far, 11 items are damaged beyond repair. Anyway, I haven't found my Frigidaire books yet to get you part numbers for the correct front and rear drum seals. I'm sure with a new seal and a little epoxy, we can fix what you already have. Yours did only have four rollers total, correct?

I believe I only saw 4 when I took it apart, I have 4 new rollers for us to install if we need them.. The movers lost a few of my items when we moved here from NY, so annoying, where did it go ? LOL
It will be a fun day when we get together, maybe we can breeze over the washer too and see if she needs a tune up...

Frigidaire DES or DES-9 1-18 Dryer

Here are the parts breakdowns and lists for the drum/cabinet of your late 70's 1-18 dryer.

Is the back panel (ref 310) on your dryer missing metal? The picture appears to show some jagged sheet metal between the front baffle and rear of the panel.

Hi Ben.

Yes. Part 310 has some gouges out of the top where the drum rotates on. The roller that was there shredded parts of it. Being metal on metal. It’s about a foot or so tear in the metal. Thank you for the part break down. It’s perfect. I would love to find part 310. But think it’s impossible. So I’ll jan etc weld this one or patch it for the new rollers to ride along.
