Used the 1-18 today and although it works fine, spins quietly, etc, there was a lot of vibration of the cabinet during agitation. It was a small load. Does that make a big difference? Anything else that can cause the vibration to increase? It was on normal agitation, not gentle.

If you try to run the machine with just water with the water level to mini on normal speed, you'll see the water gets so high on the sides of the tub that there isn't enough remaining under the agitator and the pulsator gets out of the water and makes a relatively loud noise when it hits the water on it's way down. Doesn't do exactly the same with clothes in but as Jon said, it's still not recommended to use it with a water level below "Small" on normal speed. In fact, the 1979 WEG "Elite" washer even had a feature that prevented using it on normal agitation speed if the water level selected was set below "Small".

i learned my lesson

thanks for the tips Phil and jetcone. and not only did it make a lot of noise and vibration, but I had a tub full of suds up to the top and didn't put that much soap in. those machines can really generate the suds. Fortunately they are also pretty good at getting rid of the suds too.

2 speed...

The 3 speed motor was discontinued just a few months before mine was made... It still has the same features as the previous 3 speed model less the "Hand Washable" option that was replaced by a second "Delicate" option. I still hope to find a 3 speed machine someday or the control panel and motor/wiring from a 1976 WIC washer to fit on mine...

vibration

yes as said above anything below small on load selector should be on gentle,or they make a lot of noise & rattle the machine like hell. as for soap you could call 1-18s the original H-E machines
