Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I love the exclusive concentric agitation of vintage Kelvinator/AMC washers. They are as splashy as a 4-year old in a bath tub.

Magic Minute: I'm a sucker for gimmicks like this, but don't see how it really makes much difference. The tub is three-fourths full of water when the "automatic pretreating" begins, so the difference in concentration of the detergent solution is marginal.

The best thing about the Magic Minute is that one can leave the lid up and watch the action. Once it finishes the fill, everything in the immediate vicinity gets a bath.

File Under Special Place In Hell: Another wonderfully unique wash action killed off by the manufacturer's sale to White Consolidated Industries.[this post was last edited: 1/25/2020-19:55]

outdated...

Unfortunately the Kelvinator design was very outdated. There were other machines that would wash quite a bit more than Kelvinator and their tiny tub. Rather than try to re design them with the same wash action, they decided to make them pretty generic like other machines. The boom for people to get an automatic washer was over by then and there just wasn't enough demand for them. That had to be why so many companies sold off their appliance manufacturing. By the time WCI acquired all the many brands of machines, they turned them into Westinghouse clones.
