I'm not an expert with the older Maytags but I thought that series of Maytag had the 906 that was all pushbutton? Did that stop when they went to the center dial machines or was that more of a special order machine?

Somebody else can refine my answer, but I think when the Maytags adopted the plastic "crystal" knob for the control dial in the last year or two that "seafoam blue" control panels were offered, they phased out the pushbutton 906. I think this happened a year or so before the control panels became "sunburst gold".
A tragedy, IMHO, and an indication of what was to come.

Just out of curiousity, what would that set have sold for back in the day?
Maytags were the most expensive machines on the selling floor from the late 50's to the early 80's. These would have been, hands down, the most expensive for-the-home machine available in America. At the time, in the mid-70's, the A906 would have approached $500.00. It was more money than most consumers would shell out for a washing machine at the time. Remember that back then you could buy a car for about 4K.

You can check out this thread I posted a little while back. I have the A806 shown in the brochure. Apparently it was priced at $410.00 at this particular appliance dealer back in 1970. You can see the prices written in on a few models. No price for the A906 but I would suspect it was closer to the $450 range. That was quite a bit of money in 1970!

My A208, in 1978
was 359.00, but that included tax, delivery, and changeout installation. I think I still have the cancelled check somewhere. I may not have it 100%, but I think the Whirlpool that was CRs first pick was around 250. The A208 was rated #2.

I bought my first set of Maytags with suds saver in 1972 for mom. They were large capacity but without lights for $1,000. The second set in 1975 for $1,000 for myself was 806. The last set of 806 were purchased in 1979 for $1,000. Twenty years later in 1999 I bought a set of Atlantis Maytags for $1,000. I about fell over when the Atlantis set came up at $1,000.

Maytags were pretty pricey. I noticed in a previous picture for the pushbutton Lady Kenmore of around 1971 which was Kenmore's top of the line model went for well under $300.

maytag and 1970's pricing.....
I bought a brand new 1972 Buick LeSabre 4 Door sedan, off the showroom floor, at Welty Buick In Wheeling, WV for $3300.00 No A/C and no FM....Manual Windows and door locks & Front Bench Seat. Aztec Brown with Black cloth interior, a huge car and with a 350-2 barrel Carb. We called her "LUCY LeSabre"...Many Memories with her.....She was my first car..... My Maytag A207 in the Laundry room used twice this morning...from 1972..???? I need to know what year the A207 was NEW, still perfect performance..ALSO>>>>>...Saved the three dishwashers from Pittsburgh...a 1961 Superba in Stainless Steel with big chrome horizontal Handle, dial on the bottom panel, and another Superba 18 and an Imperial from Mark...will film and download pics when I get caught up here.....Harold in Wheeling

My Mom bought a new Maytag A207 and DE406 in the Summer of 1973. I sold the washer several years ago, but still have the dryer. As Maytag didn't change model numbers by year, you will need to post the serial number. Several members here know the code used, and can tell you the date it was made.
