18" Vintage Dishwasher

Does anyone know of any 18" wide vintage dishwashers? I know of the Sears Kenmore Space Saver, but are there any others?

Also, has anyone seen any of these Space Savers for sale recently? Thanks!

i very rarely see those 18 inch models

for sale. i looked for years for one of the 18 inch D&M machines, finally found one in kentucky, then the guy wrote me and said it had frozen and cracked the pump so i didn't pursue it.

i did find one about 9 years ago up in troy ohio that i bought for 50 bucks. again thought it was gonna be a D&M brand but it turned out to be a completely different machine i had never seen before, with a montgomery ward name on it.

i remember i took it apart and completely disassembled the pump and lubricated the seal, put it back together and it worked great, no leaks! i also remember that it was the day Whitney Houston was found dead! will never forget that. i still have it and ran it only a month ago, motor getting loud so not sure how much longer it will last but it's a fun little machine. and it cleans well and has a very long main wash time.

i would still like to come across one of those sears D&M dishwashers but as said they are a rarity it seems.

The longer you look for the D&M 18" wide machine, the greater will be your disappointment if you find one. There is an 18" wide machine made somewhere in the Orient and it seems to last about 5 years. A loud woman who briefly (blessedly) worked in our office lived in an apartment in VA and was on her 2nd or 3rd Danby(?) machine in a few years. They looked nice with a stainless steel tank, but were junk.

as long as the tub

is in good shape if i do find one i should be able to get it going regardless. i have plenty of pump seals, 2 extra motors, and a couple complete pumps. i'm gonna keep looking!

as far as mine being a frigidaire, not sure. it's sold under the montgomery ward signature logo. i'm not sure who made their stuff back in the 60s and 70s. i do remember they had dishwashers that were hotpoints with their name on them.

Small 70s MW Portable DW

This DW was a Japanese copy of a FD DW, they were cute [ and about 20" wide, not 18" ] but other than cute you did not miss much.

 

There has never been a really good 18" DW except maybe a Meile or maybe a Bosch, certainly nothing good was ever built in the US.

You can get it going, but consider the washing ability with a tank that is 18 inches wide but deeper, at 23.5 inches, than that. The wash arm is less than 18 inches side so there is a gap at front and back where the wash arm cannot be under items in the upper and lower racks. The shape of the machine calls for two wash arms below the lower rack, but that is a more expensive design.

Was this of D & M origins? Had to have been near the end of the run.

Not much of a dishwasher expert but the prefix “587” shows to be D&M made.

Reminds me of the 18" dishwasher that was in my parents senior living/assisted living apartment they moved into after they sold the house. It was a Frigidair3e branded machine. Sounded just like a typical D&M dishwasher.

That was the last of what looked a little like a D&M machine, but was conceived under FDs ownership.

 

These last ones suffered from cheap door hinges that bend very easily, latch problems and they had a terrible pump and motor just like all D&M machines and other than that the fact that water could not reach the front or back of the DW and the silly pop-up wash tower and racks that rusted badly these were not too bad, LOL.
