Reading this ad, I came up with a $6K cost to buy and add refrigeration to it... huh?

Ad: " AP-18s were the largest of Frigidaire's AP-series refrigerators. Similar to the W-Series, the AP-Series came in an all-white porcelain finish. Perfect for the Victorian kitchen, this refrigerator comes with the following features:

Large, Ice-box style hardware
Four exterior doors with wood framed interiors
Eight internal steel shelves
One sliding storage bin
Six ice tray compartments
18 cu. ft. capacity
47"W x 29"D x 71"H

The sulfur dioxide was professionally pumped out and reclaimed. The line to the evaporator coil inside the unit was capped but there could still be a trace amount in the old lines. There is no longer a compressor or condenser as you wouldn't re-use any of the old system anyhow. Ability to install a modern refrigeration system in the cabinet space below, average cost $2,000 to $2,500. "

Nice, heavy fridge!

I have a W-8, which is a two door, all white cabinet.  The AP series above is grey and white.  They were from the late 1920's, just prior to the W series.

They're wrong.  If the shaft seal was good on the compressor, I would replace the SO2 and recharge with R12.  Mine needs work, but I am resisting installing a Chinese compressor in it.
