Hello! This is my first post on this forum as yesterday I purchased a late 1940s Hotpoint electric range that was sitting in a shed in southern Georgia. The couple I purchased it from said it was in working condition when they took it out of a rental house they owned. I have done some preliminary research and found several ads online from 1946 that call this model "The Masterpiece" (see link). It originally retailed for $255.
The range comes with an oven/broiler, a warming compartment, and two storage drawers. The advertisements state that the heat could be turned on an off automatically with a timer clock, and that it had a cooking bell chime element. The grille elements on the top of the stove were advertised as "Venetia-lites."
I have several questions about trying to bring this beautiful old gal up to speed.
1. Does anyone have a manual for this particular model?
2. What is the best way to clean the enamel portion of the stove? How about the discoloration on the dials? The small rust spots? The chrome elements?
3. How do you access the venetia lights to replace the bulbs? How do the timers work?
4. It looks as though a few spots were spray painted by a previous owner using regular paint. I would like to try and paint over this using a spray paint that is appropriate for oven use and that will look closer to the original finish. Does anyone have recommendations?
I welcome any and all advice and am excited to joint this group. I am new to this field but willing to put in the work to get this stove back in top shape. Thanks for your help!
