Bought a beautiful old Bendix, its in nearly perfect condition, I'm so happy with it but the timer isn't working! i set it to wash and it spun and spun, really cleaned the clothes, mainly because I walked away and let her go for almost an hour. i took apart the the dials and inspected the timing motor, all the wires are clean and no burns or frays. The whole piece is almost a work of art, the only thing I can't open is the timing motor canister, which is soldered shut...can i melt it open and see what needs fixing? The local electrician told me to give up, swearing that the motor is trash, but i don't want to believe him! People sometimes just want to see the old stuff go away, its so sad. Anyway, it seems i may need a replacement. Desperate for a lead or advice on my open heart surgery ahead. PLEASE!

There are clock repairers who can take those motors apart AND put them back together working. Even if they have to fabricate parts. Such a specialty is likely on the expensive side. I can't point you at one, but don't give up. Google 'clock motor rebuilding'.
