1947 or 1948 GE Top Loader Washer STILL WORKS

Hi everyone ! I am new to this and hope that someone more knowledgable on this subject will be able to help me. A friend of mine is clearing out his parents home and has a very old GE washing machine...(washer) from the late 1940's. I looked up some images on line and I am 99% sure it is either from 1947 or 1948. He claims that this STILL works ! In pretty good cosmetic condition as well !! Anyone out there know what this might be worth ? I could take a digital picture and post if anyone out there is interested, but that could take a few days. I thank anyone for any thoughts on where to sell this for the best price. FYI- In the Chicago area.

Automatic may be worth a reasonable amount depending on condition but a wringer, unless NIB, would be under $50 most likely.

This would be a great place to offer the machine to a true collector! It sure beats the landfill or sending to a $25 scrapper. Everyone is different though. I would suggest paging through some of the past threads and looking at items that have been listed/ sold recently. It seems in the past month there have been 5-7 machines listed. I bought a nice early dryer for $75 ... and a similar vintage washer for $150. The 54/56 washer in my pic was $70 or so. Every collector is different! Post pictures when you can ... everyone will be interested!

Jackie if it truly is a Wringer Washer like the ad you posted, those machines usually sell for $25 to $50 at estate sales. Now if it is a true 1947-1950 GE toploader, with a direct drive tranmission, it would be the third machine found left surviving and would be worth much more. Right now only two of those machines are known left to survive.

The reason for the replacement activator is the original aluminum agitator was missing from the machine when I found it, since I had a brand new old stock Bakelite agitator I put that in there as it was so shiny and pretty. I had to pick a cap, turquoise or pink or black. The turquoise was by far the prettiest as it matched the logo on the front of the machine.
