That's what I was wondering then after watching a few of these I'm thinking Poland may be a last name of someone associated with making the newsreel. Some have narration some don't so I'm again guessing that those without are just clips that edited out of the finished newsreel etc or something. If you go to the Homepage there are thousands of these Pathe newreels covering everything.. just type in a word in the search box

Is Poland

not a company who made filmcelluloïd? When I was little I remembered my mother talking about POLAND, witch was the 'nick'name of a photographershop. He had a sign above the door saying 'Poland'.

My guess, and only a guess,

is that here, "Poland" is either the camera operator's, or the director's name.

It must have seemed to be a paradise or other fantasy land for war-torn Britain. After the war, the austerity and rationing grew more severe, instead of less, and continued for years, into the 1950s.

Did anyone notice

the knife that fell to the bottom of the dishwasher when she was putting the cutlery into the basket? Then she just shut the lid and turned on the machine. In my books that is a gigantic 'FAIL' and I would sentence her to a life of dishpan hands.

Rationing.

Because rationing did get far, far worse after the war (IIRC 1946 saw rationing of bread, something which did not happen during the worst of everything) and the UK government had a dollar shortage so were trying to buy things in the Sterling area, and there was general anger at Washington for stopping lend lease shipments immediately after hostilities were done...

It would not surprise me if this was an attempt to turn the UK public away from 'their American cousins.'

I cannot imagine how grim life in Britain must have been at that time. Food shortages, fuel shortages, a huge drive to export to get foreign exchange money, impoverishment of the country due to the incredible costs of WWII, no Marshall Plan money which was REBUILDING Germany, etc.

We'll see what the next world war brings soon I suppose.

I doubt Poland is the name of the director OR the camera ope

I think it is the name of the company that made the movie or as the other gentleman said the maker of the actual film that was used to make this movie...or did anyone stop to think that this company named Poland might also have been a company that made a varietry of products for the film industry?
