Somehow, I managed to drag this home today. Rather than taking pictures, I had my video camera, so here is a little tour of the 1950 Westinghouse BA-74 "Commander" range.

I had a hard time pinning the year down - the person I got it from swore it was a '54, and then a little research suggested it might be a '51. Would you know our fabulous Automatic Ephemera feature has the service manual for this model and it is a 1950.

Westinghouse range

This is the same model I brought home a few months ago !! My was in a finished basement and never used. Mine has the open coil heating element in the oven and the right front burner is an "automatic corox unit" burner with the brain. Unfortunatly my timer does not work and the minute timer is sticky

Other than the oven needing a cleaning, that range has been beautifully maintained.  It appears that the right rear burner barely got used.  Its center Corox plate still has a shine to it.  Amazing.

The oven, on the other hand, definitely saw some use.  It has the identical replacement bake element that my mom's plain Jane  '49 Commodore required sometime around 1970 or so.

If her stove had been this same Commander model, I'd have been a little more inclined to hang onto it.

Betty Furness herself couldn't have done a better job explaining that Westinghouse range. I didn't see that very nice little 57' Frigidaire "Sheer Look" stove anywhere in your video. Heaven forbid it got swallowed up into the bowels of the Cavalcade of Food warehouse.

Stove Bunker!

Yes, please, we range addicts need a fix!

Be advised, a Westy oven will spoil you. Perfect browning!
