Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have an earlier model...

My parents were married in 1954, and I grew up with the pink and coral model.  I am assuming that since I can remember it "way back," my mother got the machine when she "went to housekeeping."

My machine, while the same model that my parents had, came from a lucky score on eBay about ten years ago.  It came complete with hose, attachments, and storage hamper.  The only thing missing is a rubber bumper that was fitted around the base of the dolly.

Link is for a vintage TV commercial for the machine.

NIce Vacuum . . .

I think my aunt and uncle had the same machine; certainly their GE was similar. It had an automatic cord rewinder as I believe this one does - take a close look at the bottom of the machine in the photo and you can see the little vertical slots around the reel cover. Since the cord is clearly not retracted I assume it no longer works, which it should for $150 . . .

Another "Joe" who's parents had that same pink & coral GE Swivel Top cleaner. As I recall it didn't do a good job on carpeting. Those clamps on the side would pinch your hands too. The GE replaced my mom's old Cadillac upright with the cloth dust bag...it was a lot more fun to use. It sort of ramped-up to speed like a jet engine and it had a headlight too.

Wow Nellie! It's missing a very important part. There should be a rectangular rubber stopper that fits in the round hole over the step switch. That is the blower port. Without the stopper it will blow dust to hell and back!
