Will niver die! I bet if you did a little work like take the cardbord out and put fiberglass of fhom in one with a start/run cap it would use almost the same power as a new unit.

My in-laws Frost Clear Gibson Upright would be a good candidate for...

 

But to be On-Topic, my late-grandparents had what was a 1940's Kelvinator Chest like this--at least the cabinet and handle resemble this later model of what IS a "Very, Simple Appliance", along with a Clothes Dryer and maybe a No-Frills Gas or Electric Range... (Or a simple, small, non-self-defrosting refrigerator?!)

It has fiberglas insulation, a LOT of it,I think it draws about 3 amps.
