1950's PINK HOTPOINT WASHER & DRYER

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Our neighbor

Had a early Hotpoint dryer , it was a vented model, but it had a trap door inside the drum to clean out the lint, the heating units were above the drum on the right side....when I  was a kid she cleaned it out but didn't get the door latched, the next load caught on fire and I remember the fire shooting out the vent...luckily it was in a cinderblock basement vented with metal pipe, that was the end of the Hotpoint...I wouldn't mind the cooktop and oven...nice!

Wonderful find - they are very stunning.  IIRC that Modern Parts had some Hotpoint parts around but I'll bet they're mostly all gone now.  Larry (RIP) always said that HP was one of his favorite brands to work on.

I'll bet this 57 washer still has a scent of Beam left in it, though HP gradually got away from Beam sourcing as the 50's marched on.

Part Beam, Part Crazy

Greg is spot on.  '55 and older machines are all Bean (with the exception of a '55 test mule BOL washer), and the '56 and '57 Hotpoints used transmission parts from Beam, and their own parts for the drive section.  Everything is pretty much Beam (transmission, pump, motor), with the exception of the crazy clutch.

By '58 they had moved to their own transmission that was used up until the Chicago washer line was killed off in favor for the re-badged Louisville GE washers in the 70's.

...aaaaand

....they're sold.......i should've asked for an interior shot of the washer. Glad to see so many people on the Facebook feed (and of course, AW.org) rave about this set.

I bought these machines

Hello! Please don't hate me for owning these. We are so in love, but are having some difficulties finding parts. Anyone can help? We are doing a complete mid century renovation in our 1957 home and had to have these machines. My husband is a great fixer upper of all things, but finding parts is proving difficult. We need a pump for the condensing dryer. Help... Anyone?

great score!

congrats a million....i hate you a little but i'll just give you the side eye ;)....I'm not yet proficient in washer mechanics but there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on here that will guide you in the right direction...and if you could indulge us with interior pics that would be great. Wonderful machines....again congrats....

hmmmmm

If this thread doesn't pick up steam, you could create a separate thread in the IMPERIAL section, introduce yourself, your fab machines and requests for help....with interior pics of course (lol)....
