Trying to find value of 1950's something hotpoint sink beside dishwasher. Also what is the door under sink for?

You are talking about a Hotpoint Electric sink. These were sold as replacements for kitchen sinks that were hung for the wall and had no cabinet space under them. The cabinet under the sink was for storage of kitchen cleaning supplies and, in models with the garbage disposer known as the Hotpoint Waste Exit, it hid the disposer from view. Manufacturers began discontinuing these as more kitchens were built with sinks mounted in countertops. When a friend's GE electric sink finally had to be replaced in the mid to late 60s, she only found two brands still available: the KitchenAid and surprisingly, a model from Frigidaire which she chose.

The house I live in and grew up in had a Hotpoint Electric sink, installed when the house was built in 1952. It lasted until 1973 and the only replacement available at that time was a KitchenAid version, costing approx. $800.00. My mother opted to replace the entire unit with a base cabinet to hold a sink and a GE Potscrubber dishwasher. The electric sink shows up from time to time as a POD....

Hi mikeestep48,

Below is a photo of the 1950 Hotpoint Electric Sink/Dishwasher that is in my collection. In very poor condition, I paid $40 for it.

Of the Electric Sinks that I have in my collection (GE, Sears/Homart, American Kitchens, Youngstown, and KitchenAid) I have never paid more than $250 for, with most in the $100 range. Obviously, the condition of a particular Sink/Dishwasher combo will help dictate how much someone will be willing to pay. In my experience, GE is the most prevalent of manufacturers' that have been presented on Craigslist in the past 3 years. And in my opinion, the other brands are more rare.

Reading between the lines, do you perhaps have one of these units that you are interested in selling? If so, we would enjoy seeing some photographs, especially looking into the dishwasher, and underneath the dishwasher (with the front panel removed).

Mike
