Does anyone someone who might be interested in a 1950s Tappan Electric 20" stove for free in western MA. It's on freecycle and I'd hate to see it crushed but I cannot take it. Here's the add info.

>from the 1950s. measures 20" wide, 4 burners. looks
>good, cool-looking. needs some electrical work, but all wiring is
>intact. all knobs original. in hadley.

The burners look like the FRIGIDAIRE RadianTube burners from the 50's thru late 70's.I wonder if they had some sort of agreement?Who would have ever thought they were going to merge?Oye!

What a great stove for a second kitchen or cottage

Neat looking stove! The 20-inch wide models are pretty hard to come by. Hmmm... I'm not THAT far from Mass....

And it's a small stove. You wouldn't even need a truck. And it's free. How can you refuse?

But it goes to the junk man the 10th of June if no one claims it. Wish I had a little cottage or camp to put it in.

They would not be Frigidaire Radiantubes, but the TK or Tuttle Kift monotubes (mono=one). This meant that each tube has the three wires within it to enable the switching among 5 or 7 heats to give an overall even heat pattern, like the Radiantubes. This contrasts with surface units of the time where the thinner elements were wound in either parallel patterns (side by side) or concentric (inner and outer rings)so that the heating patterns were uniform across the units on high, medium and simmer or warm, but varied somewhat on medium-high and low.

This is a beautiful range and built like a tank. Older Tappan electrics are very rare.

welllll......

if no one grabs the whole stove, can I bribe you for the knobs? I've got a full size '48 Tappan that's missing one and is fighting rust on another - they look the same. Pleeeeze?

the knobs

I'd love to see you get the knobs, but it's not my stove. I saw it on Freecycle and asked the owner if I could list it here. Don't know any more about here than that. If you want I can ask her if she wants me to give you her email address, or give her yours.
