I moved the 51 Kenmore that Chris from St. Louis brought up during the convention into the basement today after a new belt and a new tub-to-pump improvisation and it's working beautifully! Chris did a fantastic job of cleaning and painting so the washer looks absolutely wonderful and I can't get over how quiet this machine is!! Purrs like a kitten!

purr like a kitten, but cleans like a lion!

The straight vane agitator is very agressive, but I have several block-drive WP agitators to play with. I even have an accessory filter for the filter-challenged era machines - stay tuned! The matching dryer will get cleaned and checked over next, it's beautiful as well but needs a new timer motor and a door latch.

That is such a pretty machine. To me that straight-vane agitator was synonymous with that vintage Kenmore. It just looks right in there! You are giving me inspiration to get to work on my '55 "Frog-Eye"! (Which would be a relief from what I have been working on)! Thanks for sharing the photo's.

YAY!

Woohoo! I saw this machine in the garage and it was built like a tank! You practically had to use both hands to start the timer!

Glad it's up and running again and agitating/spinning at normal speed! How were you able to fix the pump? I remember you mentioning that it was a friction-drive...

Did you have to move anything out to put this one in? ;-)

Great looking early automatic Greg! Bet that straight vane is wicked with the long stroke transmition! Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for a filter system. (:

Greg, I can't wait to see this machine next to its matching dryer in your laundry play room. I was amazed at how quiet that machine was when we did the test loads in the garage at the convention. It is a beauty. Chris, you did a great job on the restoration. Terry

big smiles

No More Lint Picking!!

I'm really having fun with this washer - unfortunately, I don't have a video camera, I'm still getting used to those touch-tone phones!

I do have a Whirlpool Surgilator accessory I've been wanting to try for ages and haven't had the machine or the time before now. This is the filter I mentioned before...I don't have the Surgilator in the Kenmore, but let's try it with the straight vane anyway.
