I recently picked up a 1952? Frigidaire R-20 oven/range and I need some help figuring out how to adjust the oven thermostat. The temp set on the dial and the oven temp vary greatly. Is there anyone out there that has knowledge on this old style t-stat and how to adjust properly? Thank you! See photos for clarity and details.

Loosen the two screws and rotate the adjusting ring behind them.  Clockwise to raise the temperature (if the oven isn't hot enough), or counter-clockwise to lower it if the oven temp is too hot.   Tighten the screws and test for accuracy.  Repeat as needed until the oven temperature matches the setting on the oven temperature control dial.

This adjustment procedure is indicated by the "L" and "R" on the ring and the directional arrows associated with them.  Right now, it appears the ring is secured in such a way that the oven temperature would be lower than what the temperature dial is set to.

I would say 350 is a good setting to use for testing.

Oven Temperature Varies Greatly ??

Adjustments will only work if the temperature is too high or too low not more than 50 degrees.

If they are all over the place you need a new thermostat.

Keep in mind you can not accurately monitor the oven temperature while cooking food in the oven with an oven thermometer in the corner hanging from a rack etc.

Also be sure the ovens top element is working in the bake mode, these ovens do not work well if the top heat is not working.
